Bench Racing.

Hello. I have a bench racing question about my 1969 Camaro. The car is not yet finished, but when finished it will have a twin-turbo 427ci small block chevy that will be pushing around 1200hp and 1100lb.-ft to the rear wheels. It will also have a G-force 6-speed transmission, gear vendors over/underdrive, and either a 3.73 or 3.90:1 rear gear. I was wondering what kind of quarter mile times I could expect with a 3.90 rear gear? BTW, the car weighs 2,858 pounds with driver. thanks a million.

I was wondering how you like the alston front clip for your camaro I have one that i am putting in a 68 camaro and was just wondering how you liked it and if you have it in your car yet.

Hey Paul. The Alston front clip is a great unit. I would highly recommend it, because all of the bends are lazer bends, plus it is lazer welded, and to make matters even better, it weighs about 80 pounds less than the original subframe. The bolt-in was very easy and I hope to get some pics on the site pretty soon. Hey, you wouldn't know of any ways to gain sponsorship to finish building my project would you? The wife is really starting to get mad because she is pregnant with our first child and she say's that if I don't finish the car by the end of the year I have to get rid of it or she is leaving. She doesn't understand that my car has been in my family since 1969 when my grandfather father bought it new. AHHHHHH!

I wish i did because then mine would not be taking so long. I am getting married in october so money for me is pretty tight also. I am lucky that my fiance understands and actually told me that if i sold it she would not marry me. :bananna2: she knows it is my first love. But i would love to se pics of the frame and how well it sits. What size wheels are you going with?

Does she realize there are much worse things you could be doing with your time and money? Make that a point the next time the issue comes up. When asked about all of my projects my wife says she knows where I'm at and what I'm spending my money on so she is alright with them. In other words; they keep me off the streets and outta the bars...

If she dosn't understand its a Family Airloom, Id be saying don't let the door....... well you know the rest..lol... J/K. but id be having a serious talk with her at this point. My wife and I been together 6yrs. so far she has been fine with my projects. matter of fact Im about to but a 67rs she knows about it. Hopefully she wont change down the road or theres gonna be some trouble...lol. GOOD LUCK. hold onto that car because I can tell you know if you do get rid of it with it being in the family this long your gonna be mad you did. Your gonna get Mad because she made you do it. She might be mad for awhile but she might come to see its not just a car its a family thing. and Can be handed down to your kids.

With proper traction (drag slicks), your car should run mid to low 9s without even trying too hard.

When you get it done go race it and let us know!

back on topic. 1200hp in that light of a car should get you into the low 8's High 7's around 170mph. if setup right and for the track.

1200hp in a protouring set-up....Your looking at IMO a 10 second pass. More for straight line, you should see a high 8 low 9.

Funny.. that is what my wife says.. :)

Your 1320 times are going to depend on how much hp you can get hooked up.. I've seen twin turbo Supras run (with 800hp) run 12sec quarter miles because they couldn't hook. Nine ball has gotten into the 10's with only a little over 500rwhp but he can get the car to stick.

You have the horsepower for low 10's or even 9's but do you have the suspension and tires for it?

What was in them suspension, brakes, drivetrain??

Well, the Cuda had a blown, injected 528 hemi backed to a 4-speed tranny that made it's way to a custom 4-linked 9-inch rear, tubular control arms, a custom front tubular frame, HUGE Baer brakes, and American racing Torque thrust wheels. The Challenger had drop springs, tubular control arms, a tunnel-rammed 440, and a 6-speed G-force tranny backed to Strange S-60 rearend. Any other questions?

Drop springs?? In a torsion bar suspension??

I think it'd take a drag-race specific setup, and very stout one at that, to get the best 1/4 mile times out of your car. You'd need slicks, a beast of a driveline and rearend, and suspension set up for good weight transfer and to dig the tires in on the launch.
With a true pro-touring setup, I wouldn't be surprised to see 11's out of your car, smoking the tires the entire length of the track.
I've seen plenty of 800-900rwhp Supras that run 12's, simply because they aren't set up to get the power to the ground.
