View Full Version : Shell back from paint
I hope everyone is not tired of red, mini-tubbed 69 camaros. Its coming home for assembly and I wanted to show everyone what happens after a couple of years of hanging around this site. What was originally going to be a basic driver turned into a rotissorie, complete pro-touring build. Sorry about the size of the pictures, I didn't realize they would be this large.

something-something blah blah shiitebox daily driver- YUP- tired of it.
Your nicely done, who-cares-its-red-it's-yours-69? Ummmmmm- nice!
Besides- I'm right there with ya; My 68 Firebird started out as a leaky #6 intake valve, and snowballed into potential divorce.

Looks like you hit that roll bar with black after you got the shell in color. That must have been a ton of masking and taping.
Looks great though. I don't know that there are too many red mini-tubbed '69's. Scott Gulbranson's is the only other one I know of. Unless The Thrasher is mini-tubbed, which I have no idea.
Nice job. Keep us posted.

Now, put it slowly together.

What red is that? (what paint)?
Thank you for all the complements! The red ( 2004 gm torch red ppg ) was done first, then the roll bar. Actually the floors, trunk. inner fenders, etc were done first on the rotissorie in red tinted bed liner type material. The outer shell was done next, then the dash and last the roll bar. I'm not sure the reason for the order but thats how the painter did it. It still needs to be polished after assembly, but I am very happy with the results. We did a few things I haven't seen before like weld up the glove box and ash tray on the dash so we have one flat panel. Also added plates above the DSE subframe connectors in the rear seat foot well so the carpet will lay flat with out the humps. I was fortunate to find an original southwest car so all metal is original and we had a pretty good starting point.

Sweet! I'm doing mine in PPG Hot Red. I was very torn between Torch and Hot.
Does anyone know if the color on the chevy trucks called Victory red is the same as the corvette torch red? They seem very similar, but I have not seem them side by side on actual vehicles.

If you like reds, look at the 50th Anniversary Corvette Red from 2003! I saw it once in person and have regretted it ever since! I WAS TO LATE TO CHANGE MY COLOR CHOICE!

I don't care what anyone says; I like the red paint. ;) Get that thign out in the sun and it is going to look like 2 million bucks.
Question- Are the tabs on the cross bar for mounting the safety restraints or somethign else?

Thanks for feedback. I have finally got it rolling now and waiting on steffs to ship my oil pan to get the motor and trans in. I'll take some more pics and post in project updates. The tabs are for the safety harness, haven't decided which brand or type so if anyone has a recomendation please let me know.
