LS1 or LS2??

I just sold the LT1 out of my 72 Chevelle and the LS search has begun. I am looking at an 01 SS LS1 complete and a TBSS LS2. Both are the same price, similar mileage, but the TBSS is missing o2 sensors, TB, and has the truck intake and accessories. Same distance away to boot.

I'm thinking the LS1 is the way to go due to the accessories and cable TB. But, the extra cubes and heads would be nice with the LS2.

What do you guys think?

Yes. Don't be afraid of rhte DBW pedal. They are super easy to set up and are awesome.

Guys, the biggest thing with DBW is the extra cost. The pedal is cheap but 4 bolt DBW TB's seem darn expensive. I'm trying to keep cost at a bare minimum. I am also having some trouble finding info on LS1tech on compatability of the TB's. I read that a GTO TB wont work with the TBSS ECM. Any clarification?

Im definatly not scared of DBW, I welcome it but I have heard it slows throttle response. Any feedback on that?

Ah well, when I blow up my LT1 or I finally start making some big money, I'll go with the LSx. LS2 would be sweet... setting up the LS1 would be slightly cheaper...

Personally I would stay away from the TBSS LS2. It has the ugly, and very tall intake and accessory bracket arrangement. Why not a GTO LS2?

Trust me, I know the TBSS LS2 is about the ugliest Lsx setup you can get, but I can always change the accessories later. Thats why they put that huge cover on it. As for the intake, i'm thinking I might go twin screw next year so why waste the cash. If I find someone giving away an LS2 intake, I'll jump on it.

My main concern is TB compatability. I found one post on ls1tech that if you have a truck ecm, any car TB opens the opposite way and only 85%?? I would think this can be changed with tuning, but I dont know.

Go with the LS1. 2001+ have the better LS6 intake. You can sell that used on LS1tech for $300 if you wanted a FAST or WEIAND later. LS2 intakes are the worst of the bunch. You can buy them for $50 all day long on LS1GTO. Not sure what heads are on the LS2 used for the TBSS. If they are 243 castings they are better than the others.
If you can find a LS2 from a GTO that would be the best bet but they are still $$$$... :(

When it comes to the TB, there is compatibility issues when mixing different ECM's, TCM's, TB's and sensors. I always am sure to use a matching ECM/PCM, TB, MAF and other sensors.

I reference this after having a 69 CamaroI tuned with an LS2 the customer installed out of a GTO and ran great. He then installed a Magnacharger and TB out of a 2006 Trailblazer SS. It would not run well at all, backfired on accel and kept having throttle position issues. Put on a GTO TB and it was perfect.

The reason he put on the TBSS throttle body was the GTO TB had mounting issues with the TBSS Maggie setup.

It may cost you to get a complete GTO PCM, harness, TB and sensor setup and ditch the TBSS stuff, but actually save $$ and be less headaches in the long run.

Glad this was confirmed. I did find a good deal on a TBSS throttle body and I jumped on the LS2. Do you know if a 2006 Impala gas pedal will work??

I am not sure on that compatibility for sure. But as with my other info in the previous post, I would use the proper DBW pedal that matches the PCM use. Just another potential caveat when mixing parts from different applications.
