Hello, I have a 71 conv. with old stock springs in the rear. I like the height its at but with a few passengers and big bumps the tires rub with the offset i'm running. I have a set of moog cargo coils that are new but with them in it looks like I'm driving downhill. Both sets of springs are tapered on both ends. Has anyone run a non tapered spring on the top in a 71. It looks like the spring cup can fit the spring if I cut a coil off the top of the moog springs. The reason being that the moogs are stiffer and should fix the problem if they were shorter. I'm trying to do this cheap but if it won't work I'll have to splurge. Thanks, George

You can run the spring with out the pigtail on the top. A few people are using circle track springs that are ground flat on the top.

Hi, Cutting the springs worked fine. I used the insulators from a set of 65 springs on the top. The ride is much better.

This is what is in the rear of my 71 chevelle. The semi flat area fits right in the rubber pads. Have no idea what these are from, because I'm told Chevelle springs have pig tail at both ends, Notice the tight coils compared to the pig tail type spring

I run single-pigtail springs in my '69...

i was going to run the 150lb 11" springs (pigtail on botttom, flat on top) with the speedway spacers. they would work fine, but ive decided to switch to coilovers. $130 shipped if you want all of it (pics are in the sig and they are brand new).

remember that cutting a spring makes it stiffer. so if its already stiff, cutting it may be a little too much.
