Wheel stud question

Have a 12 bolt rear and need to get a set of 1/2" wheels studs. What should I look for? Can I just use a high grade 1/2" allen head cap screw? Or should I go somwhere like NAPA to get em? What length? It's for a 1st gen Camaro.

You'll want to get actual wheel studs.. they have a fine thread pitch and a knurled end to seat in the axle. Napa should have what you need. If you can, take a hammer and knock out an original and take it with you so they can match it up.

You have a lot of options, both OE replacements and aftermarket. I know that a lot of the hotrod type companies tend to use industrial socket head cap screws, but I'm not a big fan of the practice since fasteners tend to vary significantly between manufacturers and very little is made stateside anymore. If you go that route, stick with a good brand name fastener like "Holo-Krome".

The ARP #100-7704 is a good screw-in option, albeit on the long side. The press-in equivalent to it is the ARP #100-7703, but like most press-in options it is going to require you to resize the holes. Although both are insanely long, you can always cut them to whatever length you may need or want. I just run them gladiator style on my chariot with open lug nuts...but you can't just do that if you run acorns or tuner style nuts and/or center caps on the wheels that cover the studs.

Axle is new (rebuilt) and has no studs currently. Need to get some for it. I'll see what Napa has to offer.

FYI Dorman is now all "made in china" I prefer to buy Made in America fasteners whenever possible.
