black cars?

I am looking at purchasing a black car and I am a little nervous about this color.
I have a couple of questions:
(Remember this will only be a nice weather w/e cruiser)

1) Anyone regret painting their car black? Why?
2)Hard to keep clean without creating surface scratches.(clear coat)
3)Does black require different care (waxing,washing etc..)than other
colors?

1.) I've only owned one vehicle that wasn't black. So no, I don't regret it.
2.) They are much more difficult to keep clean(IMO)
3.) Depends on how anal you want to get.

1) Never regretted it one bit and nothing looks more mean than a black vehicle (IMO).
2) Much harder to keep clean but when it is clean it looks REALLY good.
3) Not really IMO as long as youre the type that washes your cars by hand. An auto car wash with the spinning brushes is a black painted car owners worst nightmare (swirls/scratches come quickly in auto car washes).

If youre the perfectionist type then be warned that stone chips, dust, crud from puddles, etc stand out like a sore thumb compared to a light colored car when looking any closer than ~15'. Stone chips arent an issue if the primer that was applied was tinted dark but the dust and dirty water from puddles is a constant battle to keep clean. All my vehicles are black, even my daily driver, so I spent a LOT of time cleaning to keep them looking presentable but then again Im pretty anal about keeping them clean and a fair weather car that is garaged and covered is a lot less work to keep looking nice.

In short my Syclone that stays garaged isnt nearly as much work as my daily driver which seems to get a coating of dust within hours of washing it.

Pro: Nothing looks better than a perfectly maintained black car

Con: Nothing looks worse than a black car that isn't perfectly maintained

Pro: Every color looks good with black and its a great background color if you want to add some sort of graphic.

Con: Doesn't stay clean long so you can't be too anal about it. Shows every little imperfection.

Pro: Black is just a bad-arse color..

what everyone says is true... w/ black, the highs are higher and the lows
are lower.

rule of thumb: if it is your sunny day car and you will keep it garaged, go black.
if it is your go to work car or you're keeping it outside, don't go black.

Yeah I notice when I park my truck next to my wifes black car dirt just jumps on to the black paint!! :lmao: one thing is for sure dont ever run it through a car wash or use one of those scrub brushes from the car was on it or youll be sorrrrrrryyyyyy.

I've had a few black cars and my 67' Nova will be painted black. I also think a well maintained black car can be awesome to look at (as long as it has a good paint job and the body is straight) It requires more care when waxing, but washing etc is about the same (just don't use anything too abrasive). Also with black your color combos for wheels, interior, stripes etc can be endless because it looks good with almost anything!

I DONT regret it one bit but keeping it clean is a chore! also, every single little imperfection shows! in my opinion, its well worth the time spent cleaning though!! I love black and my next vehicle will also be black.....

What Steve failed to tell you is that black is not a real favorite with magazines. Yellow, orange, even red get the press, but I paint all mine black anyway. Painters do it to show off.

my car is black and i plan to drive it alot and very hard. i was raised with black cars. my dad has owned only black cars and he tought me from a young age how to care for them. im the type that loves to wash and clean their car so i dont mind it. To me nothing looks more mean then black. just wash it very gently and use the right kind of cloth to wash and wax. I use cheeze cloth or fleece. and a dont worry about chips their easy to touch up. A california duster will become your best friend. i say go black if thats what you really want. the only problem i see with black is the car gets hot, my car is black with black interiour and has no AC. its not driving yet but i think its going to get pretty hot especialy with exhaust running right underneith my feet. just make sure your body guy is very good at making a car look strate. ive always been into body work and am going to school partly for collision repair and refinishing, so i apreciate a nice black car more then any thing.

Well they get features but they rarely get cover shots.. hey, bright colors sell magazines.. :)

In 30 years I've owned 3 black cars and everytime I swore I'd never own another one. Hate 'em with a passion! Its not just the major cleaning hassles, black is the worst paint for showing every ding and scratch. If your drive it daily and park in public lots, your going to get your share of dings and scratches. My son bought a black 2002 Z28 and regretted it within a month. Black cars also tend to be harder to cool with the A/C in a sunny, hot climate. Give me red or blue any day over black, thank you very much.

My Chevelle is black, My STI is black and My CBR1000RR is black. No regrets at all. As stated above, nothing looks as good as black when all shiney. Definatly takes hand washing. I also carry a California car duster everywhere I go.
