For all those lucky enough to be in SoCal: Redline is having a Time Attack event this Weekend at California Speedway which will feature a classic muscle car class. I would love too go too see what works and what doesn't, and too see some prime prepped muscle eating up the R-Oval. If anyone goes could you give a report of what is there and how it runs?

You guys missed out on a great event! The muscle car class was very cool to watch. I was out there driving this 750whp beast...

Thanks! We did ok. It was a very frustrating weekend for us. We were about 5 seconds off of the pace which we had run there before, but we were on a non-ideal cam setup for the engine this time. We had gone testing there in May and ran a 1:46.xxx but then blew the motor. We re-built another motor, this time a little newer model, but the exhaust cams didn't fit from the old motor and we couldn't get new ones in time. So we had monster intake cams and stock exhaust cams which on a turbo car = a lot of lag. We didn't get boost until 5k rpm with a 7200rpm redline which meant we were waiting for the power to come in at a lot of the turns. This lead to us being about 6 seconds off of our testing time. We are astounded that it slowed us down by that much, especially since the weather conditions were virtually identical for the test day and the time attack. We ran the car in 2 classes, with a best time of 1:52.0xx and got 2nd in Modified RWD and 3rd in Unlimited RWD. So it ended up pretty good, but it is still frustrating to know we could have had much better results if we had run the same times.

Damn it! I let my brother talk me out of going... That will not happen again.

Sin,
What tires are you running on the front of that car?

For the Modified Class we were running on Toyo R888 tires.

For the Unlimited Class, and the ones in the photo, we run Hoosier R6 tires.

Both sets are 295/30/18 front, 315/30/18 rear.

Does anyone know the rules that applied for the "muscle car class"?

I think it was more of an exhebition event, but they are talking about possibly making it an actual class for 2009. I think the only rule they had put in place for the Auto Club Speedway event was the car had to be a pre '81.

The shop that built that car is actually in El Cajon (San Diego) and is called Relentless Autosports.

Sweet whip. They did a great job.

Do you know if Redline has any plans to run events here at the Speedway? It seems like what happens in the US happens around Vegas but not in Vegas.:ripped:

Thanks!

You can blame LVMS for that one. Their rental rates are far too high to attract many of these types of events. Redline would have to raise the entry fee to a point where nobody would show. Not to mention LVMS is notoriously difficult to work with. Spring Mountain in Pahrump would have been an option if they didn't turn into a country club. They only accept outside events from a select few companies and Redline isn't one of them. They actually had their first time attack there back in 2005 though. Looks like we will be stuck traveling to So-Cal still :(.
