Bought an original grill and moldings for my 68 Camaro from a member on here and got it yesterday with the grill busted in the center and the upper and lower moldings damaged also. It was all damaged at the same time as you could tell from the box. Something was placed on it right carelessly where the grill center point is. It was thankfully insured but how would you guys go about dealing with UPS. Anybody ever delt with this that could lend a hint on how to resolve it the quickest and best way!!https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/05/biggrin-1.gif

From what I hear, you don't want the UPS guy to leave your place until you've inspected the item. I know I don't make him stay for me but then again I have never gotten a grille in the mail. If I ever do I will definately inspect it before signing.

Typically, since the seller is the one who paid for the insurance for you to UPS, they can only issue him a refund for the value, not you. What this means is if the guy is straightforward about it, he should refund you the money and file a claim with UPS and he/she will usually get re-imbursed in about two weeks time. UPS may want to talk to you to verify the claim (emailing pics of the damage helps, too) so make sure the seller has your contact info so he can give that to UPS should they need it. -Jabin

You'll file a claim with UPS and they'll work out the deal to get you refunded. They'll want to talk to the shipper and see the box. They'll want 6 or so very specific shots of the package, label, etc. Sometimes they will offer to send their inspector over to see the packaging, but it usually takes a while to get them over. Then it's a waiting game.

I have an account with FedEx so they may handle it slightly different from UPS but whoever pays for the insurnace to the shipper is who gets refunded-I have never had any claim problems though-it is unlikely they'll send an agent unless we're talking about a large sum of money lost on the parts due to damage. People who sell stuff like or a lot of parts usually have a shipping account so it'd be good customer service to issue a refund to you and then file a claim from a sellers standpoint. Hope it works out for ya!

I just went through this with a part I ordered for a neighbor. We filed the claim, the sender had to fill out a couple pieces of paperwork, and the refund came straight to me. Took 4-6 weeks.

The guy I bought it from has already said he will check into what needs to be done today. He did put insurance on it but only $200 but that is better than nothing considering what will have to be done now. I sent him some really good shots of the damage and will send some of the box this evening. I just didn't want to wait days before calling while waiting on him if it is up to me to do the complaining. Sometimes a few days can be the thing that breaks the deal. Not sure if I should do an online complaint also or not?!

I wouldn't worry, you have up to 30 days I believe to file a damge claim and if he insured the items, he should have paid enough to cover what you paid for them-not his cost. Insurance is pretty cheap too....I can insure a part up to $1000 value for about $8. Be sure to include your shipping costs also on the claim. FYI, FedEx (and UPS too I think) gives you up to $100 worth of insurance free so never get snookered into paying for extra insurance for under that amount.
