View Full Version : How to clean off tire rubber
I need help!
I tried the traditional Bug&Tar remover, a plastic body-filler as a scraper and today I tried Kerosene!
The kerosene worked on some area's, but not all.
I still have rubber caked on my polished stainless exhaust tips and I can't get it off!
EDIT: Add in some super-heated road tar too,.....might be some of that also. ;)
Any suggestions??? (besides not doing burnouts and putting vaseline on BEFORE the burnout which I didn't do!) :banghead:

Have you tried WD-40?

Gasoline works awesome!
Andrew
Well, the WD-40 did not do much for me by itself.
Then I tried some fine steel wool.......along with the WD-40 and got good results. Now I'm crossing my fingers that it'll come back with a high buff polishing. I think it will.
Andrew, ..I'll try some gasoline on the other side!
Gasoline seemed to work really well on the paint (lower quarters) but only did about 1/2 the job on the stainless exhaust.
back to the fine steel wool to finish the job. :)
Thanks for the tips Don and Andrew1

The local hardware store should sell something called "goof off" it works very well.

Also, head to your local auto paint store and pick up some "speedy 500"

It works far better, but costs more.

I wish someone was here to see this crap!
I tried the Goof Off. And I'm a believer in the stuff but it didn't crack my super heated tar and rubber. I decided to use the stuff I poured into a bowl to clean an old paint brush. :) lol.
I tried the carb and choke cleaner and it worked well on the quarter panels but no effect on the stainless pipe.
Crazy isn't it? :screwy:

Solvent in a squirt bottle or on a rag. Works great and it's what I use for my tire marks after a serious open track session.
Cheers and get scrubbing,
