i brought my car in for an alignment today and was quoted $612 today at the alignment shop to change the upper control arm bushings on my 70 nova. I thought this was a little crazy; I asked why so much and the tech said that they are push in type bushings and that the whole upper arm needs to be replaced?

There is no way I'm going to pay 612 dollars for a bushing and at that price I might as well by some tubular a arms and save a hundred dollars?

what should I do? This car a 99% street driven so I'm not looking to go crazy I just want a alignment.

Do it yourself an have a shop press out the old bushings.

If you haven't gathered from Matt's response, the shop figured they'd rip you off a bit.

The UCAs do not need to be replaced. Take the arms off yourself and take them to a shop to just press out and press in the bushings, or find a different mechanic. I don't remember what I paid last time I had a shop press in bushings, but it wasn't anywhere close to 600 bucks.
