I am looking for a Satin Black to paint my firewall, subframe, floor, and some stripes..
I want it to be Satin or Seim-gloss not flat. I also want it to have some sort of a clear so that I can wash and wax it and not have to worry about it..
WHat do i want??
Thanks

PPG has a product called "Flexed and Flat" that I have used before. It's a flat clearcoat with a flex additive, hence the name. As it comes, it is completely flat. However, you can mix it with a couple of other normal PPG clears to get any degree of flatness you want. Directions are either on the can or a data sheet the paint shop should have. I have also used PPG's flattening agent (which looks like candle wax) before and wasn't as happy with it. "flexed and flat" worked very well and sounds like what you want.

Hot Rod Black from SEM is about $69 for a quart kit, which is about a quart and a half mixed. Single stage with no flattening agent to add.

I had mentioned SEM's Hot Rod Black in another thread - as scogin mentioned.
FYI - it isn't necessary (you shouldn't!!) wax Satin or Flat finishes. The Hot Rod Black is already formulated to resist UV rays and it isn't suppose to Mar or chalk.
If you wax satin finishes you will end up with a blotchy uneven appearance. I found this out the hard way back in the early 1970's!!!
I believe the SEM product is the way to go - it's a single application and you're done. No need to worry about basecoat clearcoat.
Flex N Flat by PPG is a great product if you want to alter the luster to your liking. I always use the SEM Hot Rod Black for Satin appearance.
Be beware that you if you apply more than the recommended 2 coats of the SEM Hot Rod Black - you could end up with a semi-gloss appearance.

John Deere Blitz Black or Hot Rod Flatz Black.
No exp with either, but those are 2 other options.

I have use both the ppg and dupont hot huges. but when i used the ppg got a back batch or hardener and was a mess. but once i found out what happened and striped and re-did my bike three time it was nice, did the hot rod black on my dd s10 its real easy to use and cheap in cost. for the look i like the ppg better but have a bad taste for it but would try it again. below are two pics the bike is ppg and the s10 is hot rod black that is 4-years old and i drive it all year around.
