Hi all,

Noob here; I just wanted to ask the pros what a good setup would be for a 68 Camaro Convertable. I probably won't be doing anything other than spirited driving with an occasional track day. Mainly, I want something of great improvement over the stock suspension without breaking the bank. I want good quality stuff and most importantly It's gotta look cool!

I love what Detroit Speed has, but I just don't have the funding for some of their stuff. I was also looking at the Hotchkis TVS setup.

Right now I have a budget of no more than $4,000 to $5,000 for a complete setup of both front and rear suspension.

I'm open to suggestions as I have not set anything in stone just yet. Thanks for the help!

What do you currently have for wheels and tires?

I plan on running Fiske Profil 10; 17" 255's up front and 18" 275's in the rear.

Doing the Hotchkis TVS system does nothing to improve the factory geometry, which is horrible.

The way to improve the handling (besides replacing worn out parts) is to fix the lack of negative camber gain, increase the amount of positive caster, and correct the bumpsteer.

Your options for doing this are tall spindles (ATS, Heidts or Fatman), tall ball joints (SC&C) or doing the Guldstrand Mod.

To add to this you can add tubular control arms (SC&C, Global West, DSE, etc) stiffer springs, good shocks (Bilstien are my favorite) and some upgraded bushings (again, Global West Del-a-lum are perfect.)

From there you can add a bigger bar, solid body bushings, sub frame connectors, and then tackle the rear suspension.

For steering, our 670 steering gear is just like adding in a rack and pinion unit, but in the form of a factory sized steering gear.

Hope that helps some.

Is your 5K budget including buying the wheels and tires

Thanks Tito, good to know about the TVS.

No, wheels/tires not in the budget. I am looking for the best bang for the buck; but I don't want to sacrifice quality.

What is the opinion on the 21st Century C5 subframe/IRS? Has anyone priced these lately?

What's the best/most economical front subframe?

Stock subframe is fine.
New Control Arms, gulstrand mod, bigger sway bars + rear sway bar, great shocks, good brakes, big sticky tires, better power assist steering box, subframe connectors, and you would be set

You will need springs too
