Are 67/68 Camaro rear seats the same except for the upholstery? The reason I am asking is I want to use Marquez door panels in my 68 Firebird but the seats between Firebirds and Camaro's are different and will need to be changed and I may have found a rear seat from a 67 Camaro for a good price.

Thanks,

Bruce

You have to make sure the 67 seats came from a non-armrest car (non-deluxe interior). the easiest way to tell is to measure the width of your seats, because all firebirds should have armrests and measure the seats you want to buy, they should be longer of the car didnt have armrests or 68,69 coupe seats will work too, they didnt have armrests

So you need 67-69 stantard coupe seats to make the Marquez door panels work

Just for reference, standard interior 67-69 Camaro rear seats are not the same as a Firebird (found this out the hard way). Firebirds have the rear ashtrays/armrests which makes the rear seats in a Bird narrower than a standard interior Camaro rear seat by quite a bit.

5th gen,

Exactly what I needed to know.

69TAPoser,

Made a little mistake myself by purchasing Houndstooth interior from Year one for a Camaro and of course the rear does not fit. Thats OK I wanted to do something different with the door panels anyway so I guess it will be Marquez.

Thanks for the help guys!

Your welcome. The Bird seats are only a few inches shorter on each side, so if you wanted to keep your rear arm rests, you could have an upholsterer shorten your covers. I had my upholsterer do this with my procar covers and it was cheap.

I like the idea of custom door panels, but either way you will have to either have your upholstery trimmed or use a camaro seat frame (looks like you already knew this after re-reading your post). There are "narrow" and "wide" versions of the rear camaro seat.

Here is a chart I "borrowed" from the Team Camaro site:

There are two first-gen Camaro rear seat widths: the standard 55-inch width (when measured at the middle of the bottom seat), and a narrower 48-inch width. All 1967-69 convertible rear seats and all 1967-69 fold-down rear seats are "narrow". All 1967-69 coupe fixed (non-folding) rear seats are "wide", except with the 1967 coupe custom interior. The distribution of rear seat widths is shown below in table form:

Rear Seat Width

convertible coupe
custom standard custom standard
folding fixed folding fixed folding fixed folding fixed
------- ------ ------- ------ ------- ------ ------- -----
1967 narrow narrow narrow narrow narrow narrow narrow wide
1968 narrow narrow narrow narrow narrow wide narrow wide
1969 narrow narrow narrow narrow narrow wide narrow wide

1968-69 coupes with Z87 custom interior and a non-folding rear seat did not have armrests (the 1967 custom interior had the armrests), so these seats are the same width as the standard coupe interior. 1967-69 convertible interiors, 1967-69 fold-down rear seat interiors, and 1967 custom interiors have a rear filler panel armrest with built-in ashtray and therefore use a narrower seat bottom.
