Any one running a 540ci what size injectors are you running?
I'm running 72lb and I think that this is the problem with fouling plugs since I put this XFI in all I do is foul plugs. Also are you running AIC in yours?

This car is headed to Force Fuel so Rob get a crack at it. Time to let a pro look at it. Tired of changing plugs.

I'm just curious as to what other people are running in their 540

I ran 95's in mine and the plugs were as clean as could be. Even at 800+ rwhp it got 19+ mpg on the freeway.

I think the XFI is completely capable, I'd guess the issue is in the tuning. Rob is good, he should get it cleaned up for you. I had an IAC, A/C, etc., no problems.

I am with Jody in that the XFI should be more then able to work properly assuming that it is properly setup and everything is operating correctly. An errant coolant temp or IAT temp can make things pretty rich as well as an improper calibration.

With a good tuner it should work out fine.

Left the car of with Rob lets see what he finds. He will install an AIC and let me know what he finds with the tuning.

Are any one of you running a Fast 2000 cfm TB what air filter are you you using? I have not been able to find a drop down lid for a 14" K&N filter,

I am running the 72's on my blown 383 with no fouling problems.

75# injectors running bank to bank on my 353, no issues with fouled plugs. Managed 19 mpg last Friday on a 120 mile round trip with 1 blast from 70 to 150 mph and several tire hazing 45-75 2nd gear blasts with 3 of us in the car.

As others have said it's more than likely the tune. If it was hardware or wiring related I would expect other problems too.

Well I have been very busy with work and have not been able to post what is happening but thing are looking good. i took the car to Rob from Force Fuel and he found a lot of problems like
1. 2 bad spark plug wires
2. Timing was of 10 degrees
3. The AIC circuit port in the Fast throttle body was blocked by the manifold once bolted on and he had to machined a passage so it could work.
4. He had to try to different AIC
5.And finaly the XFI had to be sent back to Fast because the AIC was showing a code.
Man I would have never got that to work I would have blamed it on the tune.
I was at his shop last friday and while in the office I herd the 540 start up and idle man that was good to hear. Car idles good and goes into gear and back to park with out any issues.
We are goin to put the car in a dyno to finish tuning it.

I will let you know what happens, I'm hoping for 500+ at the rear wheels.

Well what a day went down to Robs shop and we went to the dyno shop to see what the car would do. This was my first time doing this and it was a blast!!. We got the car hooked up and we went for it I was given the instructions of when to hit it and when to lift.

The results were that we made 488 hp on the first past but the car got into overdrive so we did it again in third gear and started went through 1-2-3 and I hit it started pulling and next here comes 4 gear and then it pulled to 6600 and I lifted and we called it a night.

I have to get into the fast/TCI controller and as see what I must do to keep 4 gear from coming in. Also this was the first time that I drove the car in the express way and what a difference with the overdrive, but part throttle 1-2 is very hard must see how to make that a little less noticeable and jus go through the program and get the trans program right.
I must say that Rob from Force Fuel spent some good time with me and made the experience very enjoyable.
If someone knows about 4L80e tuning please feel free to join in and lend a helping hand.
When we get this figured out we will get back to the dyno and make some more pulls and see what this thing will do.
Also the fuel air ratio was impressive from the first pass Rod has the magic touch that is for sure.
Will see what happens next time. keep you posted.

You could dyno in D instead of OD as well.

For the shift harshness, try altering your 1st gear line pressure via the controller so it is lower at light throttle (low TPS values) and ramp up quickly after about 50% TPS. The 80E is know for their harsh 1-2 shift but by playing around I got it perfect. They also get more harsh on the 1-2 shift when the tranny is heated up, so that's when you want to set the final value. The nice thing is you can save your current setup and experiment. I'm on tranny tune revision #12 now and couldn't be happier - sweet n' easy around town, an absolute bear above half throttle.

Jim.

Thanks for your input. We did put it in D and it still shifted to over drive I have not had a chance to play with the transmission tune but I will have to get into it as I need to make some more moves with the car.
Do you have a TCI controller can the tune of that be shared?

I was at the dyno session. The car sounds real strong. It looked and sounded like 600+ RWHP

I heard about the sidways drive home.:6gears:

Russ thanks.

I called TCI and there is a yellow wire with the a tag that says Dyno that if taken to ground the trans will not go into over drive.

So now we know and should get back to the dyno to see what the car will do. I guess this wire input is like on the newer cars od off/on maybe I will add a switch some were to switch on off over drive.

Russ what did your car make on the dyno? any good stories.
