Recently, I added a set of headers to my 69 Camaro. Because they almost touched the ground at the rear clamps we raised the car by approx. 1". I have GW up/low tubulars and springs that were cut when I replaced the old iron powerplant with a LS7. The springs were cut to return the car to the height it was with the heavier block. They were originally 1" lowering springs. I have DSE rear leafs, IAS Edelbrock shocks.

I have yet to drive the car but my builder states that since we have raised the car, it is more to it's "original geometry" than before and actually handles better because of this.

I hope this is the case, but I have never heard of "original geometry". The car looked great prior to the header swap, lowered and mean. The car height has not changed that much but I'm all for improved handling. What is "original geometry" and can raising a car up improve handling performance?

He's probably referring to getting the ride height closer to stock by raising it up. Generally, raising a car is a no-no due to the center of gravity height change, and we like to keep that low.

If the car is aligned at the proper/desired ride height, it will be just fine. I seriously doubt you're taking that car to its limits constantly to really know the difference.

The car is still lower than "original" height but I've never heard of original geometry. Will test it on Thrus. regardless, we needed to raise it for clearance. Nick-got your message and I felt the same way?!

He means it`s closer to the geometry the car was originally designed with. He obviously doesn`t know a lot about it because the geometry as originally designed is absolutely terrible by any yardstick! The camber curves are literally backwards, the roll center is much too low and migrates like crazy. Bumpsteer is pathetic. Almost anything you do to it (except raising it higher than stock) is likely to make it better. Mark SC&C
