I need to get a popup blocker, whats a good one to get? My computer was getting full, 5.99gig out of 6 and I cleaned out a bunch of stuff and its working alot better now. I got spybot installed on it and that helped a bunch too. Now if I can get all these popups shut off it will be good. :enguard: (me vs Popups)

5.99gig out of 6???

You are only running a 6g hard drive??? How old id that box?

What service provider are you running, many have decent blockers built in? POW is pretty good and is free.

I used to run Internet Explorer, till I found Mozilla Firefox. No popups, and it's more secure.

Run Ad-Aware, and SpyBot Search and Destroy. You can get both of them off cnet (downloads.com)

First you need to delete some stuff from your hard drive or you will not be able to install any popup blocking software, let alone a new browser.

definetly get mozilla firefox for your browser, its way better no spyware or pop ups. I use it at work after I got some nasty spyware. Dont have to worry about it at home all Macs!!!

Yeah, like some of the other guys, I use Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer for my browser. It works great to stop the pop-ups. Just go to http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ I also use Ad-Aware to get rid of spyware. You can get it for free at www.c-net.com, then just search for ad-aware there and download it for free. You can also go into your internet options and lower the amount stuff that gets saved from the internet by lowering the space on your hard drive you set for it.

These are available from Home Depot and a variety of other sources.
If you are on broadband, and do not have hardware and software firewall protection, your computer is almost definitely infested with Trojan horses, adware, spyware, etc.
Ad-Aware and other programs work great, but without firewall protection, the problems can just rush back in within minutes. And yeah, I don't have any of these problems on my Macs--just my PC's.

Sorry for the doom and gloom, but there's no "magic wand" solution here. In fact, in some cases, adding protection on existing computers has failed. In worst case scenarios, it may be necessary to wipe your computer and add firewall protection BEFORE re-connecting to the internet.

Steve I would like to use that hammer on the butthead that gave me a new homepage awhile back. My computer is 5 years old, I deleted enough stuff that I have a half a gig of space now. I have spybot sd and adaware on it. I have a pos local company that is our internet provider and it is slow dialup, the only alternative that I know of is satellite and its more than I want to spend right now. One thing that I get now is when I am online it will freeze up for about 30 seconds to a minute then this box will pop up and ask if I want to install macromedia player, I think thats the name of it and when I can close that it starts working again. I have heard macs are good for the net as there arent too many nasty things out there to mess them up. Thanks for all the info guys! I will go check out mozilla firefox. :icon996:

Check out firefox, good product. You might want to also just buy another hard drive. They are not that hard to install and considering your comp is only 5 years old you should have 2 ide channels. Primary and secondary each with a master and slave. So you have have usually 4 ide devices hooked up at one time. If your ide cord has another slot just go and buy a cheap new 40 gig (should be able to get them pretty cheap now) and keep the 6 gig for OS only. If it doesnt have another slot go buy another cord.
