What Seats To Get - $1200 Budget - Pics??

Here is what I currently have...

67 Camaro w/ Black Deluxe Interior.

I am looking for some seats that are real comfortable and look bad a$s. Something that will recline and since I am a bigger guy - 5'11" - 245 pounds I need something that is not too narrow.

When I drive my legs stick out against the console and the door so I need something that doesn't squeeze my legs together.

Can anyone point me in the direction I need to go in? Any recommendations? Anyone have some pics of what they have in their car that would fit my needs?

i vote for Arizen seats. very comfortable, and i like the fact that they made a rear seat cover for me to match my front seats. I'm 215 at 5'9, and these seats are great. Mark is awesome to deal with as well...

Yeh the Arizen seats look nice. I looked at Recaro seats but those are a bit pricey. I also looked at the Corbeau LG1 seats and they look really cool.

Anybody have the Corbeau LG1s in their first gen camaro?

Arizen makes them in black/houndstooth which looks pretty cool. Kinda makes the seats looks "original" ... well so to speak that is...

Be very careful over what seats you buy, and try them out in advance if possible. There are many retail locations in the country that have most racing seats available for you to sit in before you buy.

When looking for seats for my car, I must have sat in 15+seats ranging from $800 to $3500 and I never found one that fit me well in the style I wanted. I consider myself somewhat larger than average, 190lbs and 5'11 or so. Most felt good in the pelvic area, some were too tight for the thighs, and only 1 fit my shoulders (and was too large in the pelvic area). Its tough!

The seats in my old 06 GTO were the best I've ever sat it. For $1200 you could get the front and back seats, with the belts.

For me it was seats from a 2001 Cougar. $200 for the pair, $50 for low profile tracks, and $100 or a black topcoat.

yeah I have sparco torinos and I just got them because I won't slide around in them. Kinda hard to find any seats to fit my shoulders when I'm 5'8" 190 all muscle, not fun to find seats, but hey if my hands are on the steering wheel my shoulders are forward and i fit in the seats great lol

+1 on actually sitting in them before you buy. You cannot judge seats on loos alone. Try to find a speed shop that carries a bunch of brands to try.

I found a set of Recaro "Style" seats in black leather for a great deal a couple years ago and couldn't pass it up. I am very happy with them, but they aren't cheap. The Recaro "sport" model is also very nice. I found a nearby Recaro dealer and sat in all the models before I bought the Style's.

Those GTO seats are also very nice, and 4th gen Camaro seats are a lot better than a stock 1st gen seat and are easy to adapt to our cars. The driver's seat is also very adjustable to find the perfect driving position, and they look right in an older car.

I had also thought about doing BMW seats in the past, but the track width of all the newer Bimmer seats is too wide and don't fit the floor pan right. I'm sure they could be made to fit with a little fab work, and BMW seats are some of the best anywhere. A set of E46 Sport or M3 seats would be very nice in an older car.

For the money, the Arizen seats are hard to beat. And while I can't speak of the fit in a first gen; I can tell you they are very supportive and comfy, and the quality is very good. The guys at the shop that built my seat tracks http://www.wedgeengineering.net/ were very surprised that these seats were in the 800 dollar range, and guessed them to be much more. The only small complaint I have is that you have to turn the round knob to adjust the recline, instead of a lever. They do have a release lever for quick forward tilt for rear seat entry.

I think headroom in a 1st gen is comparable to a 2nd gen, and while the seats do sit a little higher than stock, it is no problem for me.(I'm 6' 1'')
Might be a problem for taller folks. Also, they can be ordered in standard widths or 2" wider on the backs or the bottoms. I ordered the extra width on the backs only and I really like them.
