HI
I want to put vents in my charger hood above the turbo's, to help remove the extreme heat they produce.
the problem: I live in B.C Canada so it rains alot and I drive my car rain or shine, I am worried about the water running onto the hot turbos' and cracking them.I also have fuel injection so I want to keep that stuff dry too
Is there some sort of screen that will allow air through but not water???
how do you guys do it???
thanks jason

gore-tex allows air but not water...but that's not too practical
I would suggest some sort of mechanical separator (drip tray/rails) that air can flow through, but gravity-driven water will be stopped by.

Maybe build an extractor type hood kinda like this guy did :http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/168601. You wouldn't get much water in there while driving, and you could make a sort of gutter at the bottom edge to catch any that would happen to get in there. This type of hood is good for pulling out hot underhood air as well as reducing lift at speed.

how about closable louvers? or fit a fan above the turbos to blow the air out along with any rain?

thanks for the ideas
the extractor hood is a good idea,
I like the look of big louvers too.
I,ll have to research some more
I wish there was a mesh i could put under the louvers to acomplish this
I don.t have much room left for duct work etc

Have you got a heat shield on the exhaust side of the Turbo? The turbo in my WRX sits directly beneath the hood scoop, the only thing between it and the water coming in from the scoop is the heat shield.

I never thought of that, I am in the process of fabbing stainless heat sheilds for the hot sides
I wonder if that would be enough?? or would water on the exhaust cause problems for me
thanks
p.s gonna check out the mule pics to see what he has
thanks shmoov
