My wife found a puppy...

On Saturday my wife was walking around our neighborhood and this little pup followed her home :pat:

On Sunday my wife went door to door to see if anyone lost a puppy. Nobody was missing anything so it looks like we're stuck with a new dog, hence the collar. Does anyone have any idea what kind of dog we have? She's going to the vet today so maybe he'll know.

We rescued a young mother cat and her four one week old kittens from a bad scene this weekend. All are doing great in the basement. She's eating like there is no tomorrow. Here are two of her babies.... Up for adoption mid August.

When you go to the Vet, ask him to check him for a "chip".
You might find out who the owner is.
It could be that someone just abandoned him in a nice neighborhood so he'ed get a good home.

My wife took her to the vet this morning. He said she's in extremely healthy condition and that we found a good little dog. He also said he'd be surprised if she wasn't all Lab.

Anyway, she got shots, heartworm treatment, and Frontline, so now she's good to go... until next month when she needs more.

Oh, and there's no chip so I guess that means she's ours.

My dad's dog passed away last year and he said he'd take her if we couldn't keep her. The problem with that idea is that he lives in CA. We were thinking about flying her to him but we're not sure about the whole plane idea. Has anyone ever shipped a dog on an airline?

I brought my dog with me when I moved from NYC to Hawaii and again from Hawaii to San Jose. There are restrictions on ambient temps. Can't ship that day if it's too hot or too cold etc. If you are going to do it your vet can give you a little sedative that will help the guy remain calm during the trip.

I got my Bullmastiff from the CA chapter of the National Breed club. They told me she was found as a stray in Menlo Park (no homes under $1.5M) and was chipped. When they tried to contact the owners they had skipped town. Just dumped a $2000 purebred Bullmastiff in a park and booked. Amazing. Their loss, I got a great dog.

personally wait till the dogs 1 yr old to ship it, or at least has some confidence, i know 10 wk old puppys are shipped all the time but why chance freaking the dog out unless you have to.

The white on the chest makes me think it's only part chocolate lab. I've never heard of any pure lab that was not solid colored. Nice looking dog though. Train him if you keep him. Labs have a lot of energy.

My Vet-tech wife is telling me that the ears could be pit, but the whole package appears to be a lab-weimeraner (sp?) mix...

My dad used to have a pit mix (died last year at 14) and this puppy's ears and face remind me of his. But then the lab-weimeraner mix looks like a good guess because I can see the cues from each breed.

Regardless of what breed she is, she seems to be a great little dog and so far hasn't been much trouble. She'll probably end up with my parents because they're both semi-retired and have a nice big fenced back yard. Perfect for a puppy!

Training for sure! We've already got her walking on the leash and heeling pretty well considering it's only been a couple of days. She has energy by the boat load!

Keep the pup.. it was meant to be. Also, keep an eye open for signs looking for her, just in case. Although I wonder how responsible an owner is that doesn't even put a collar on a dog.

Our new pup ran away on Thursday. My wife opened the door and the pup ran (Whippets are FAST). She called me in a panic and since I was at an airport I couldn't help. I told her to keep looking, worry about making signs when it gets dark.

Some teenage girls found her a block away and my wife ran across them on the way back to the house. Our lucky day!

Anyways, the point was about the chip and to get that asap. They generally do it when the dog is getting fixed, but it can be done anytime.

Cute dogger.. owning a dog is the best thing ever, especially when you get a good one.

We still miss Athena so much.. He was right when he said our lives are remembered by which dog you had...

We really want to keep her but we're set up for cats. We've got four living with us... One we've had for almost 18 years and she's pretty frail and is scared to death of the pup. Another one (a stray we took in) we've had for over 14 years and he hasn't been in a good mood since the pup moved in. Our other two cats (two more strays) are 2 and 3 years old and seem to be a little more tolerant but still keep their distance.

This is a really hard decision because the pup is so lovable and fun to have around. I know the longer she's with us the harder it will be to give her to my parents. My mom is still on the fence about it so if she puts her foot down and says no, we won't have a choice but to keep the pup and hope the cats can adjust.

the cats will soon love the dog, that is if they generally like dogs normally, plus you will train the dog to behave around the cats, and vice versa, the cats will show him how they want to be treated,lol just like any feline.lol
