Have a unusual Question

I am wondering if the stock fuel pump in a Jeep TJ can be used with a carbureted engine? I am thinking I should be able to use a pressure regulator to reduce the pressure down to the normal pressure of 6 to 8 psi. I have a Pontiac 455 laying around and want to put it in my wrangler.
