It's time again to terrorize the Angeles Crest Highway, have a great breakfast, and spend some time bench racing with a bunch of fellow gearheads.

As before we will be meeting at the Shell station at the Angeles Crest Highway exit off the 210 freeway at 6:30am. The 27-mile winding-road drive is a thrill (if you want it to be,) as are the scenic views and the great food at Newcomb's Ranch. Bring any car you want. Heck, don't bring a car at all and hitch a ride with one of the others. I'm hitching since my car is out of commission.

The early morning makes for a great run that is cooler and helps avoid the traffic that starts up later.

The road has been great. I went up early this morning (5:45ish) and hooked up with the "Dawn Patrol" motorcycle guys. THAT was fun. About the same speed in the corners, but a LOT more throttle between corners, and even used the brakes some.

The car's running pretty well, but the 4.11's are killing me at the pump. I'm seriously considering switching to 3.55's. As it is now, I can't get on it in first gear, so maybe the 3.55's won't be too bad.

Time to start a head count. Who's in? I need to be back a bit early to take the family to the circus.

Hey Mike,

I heard that the Shell Station parking lot is closed. Have you seen it? If it is how about meeting on the freeway overpass? There's a lot of room and no No Stopping/Parking signs (I think.)

Yes, it's been closed and likely will still be on Sunday. I was going to post up Saturday to let people know. I'd suggest meeting just uphill from the freeway overpass (above the upper freeway ramps).

Love to go but I'll be chasing cones at El Toro this weekend.

Cheers and have one for me,

If you all don't mind a motorcycle tagging along, I think I will join you.

So is it 5:30 am just North of the 210 on the highway?
Any specific meeting place?

I guess I'll be able to spot the cars.

6:30. At 5:30 you'll be riding with the motorcycle Dawn Patrol.

That's too bad considering all the real tickets that could have been, and probably were, given out this morning.
I was about 20 minutes behind Carl and Mike on the way back down the hill, and saw 3 different cops writing tickets.
Yeah, early morning is way better there. By 10:00 that road was downright busy, but there were still a lot of bikes going way too fast for the conditions.

All in all, good times! It was good to meet you guys in person and put some faces to the names. Maybe next time I'll be able to bring my car.

Sorry I couldn't make it. Between last week's work and my 3 yr olds b-day party yesterday, I was in NO position to wake up early and make the drive out there.

Sorry I missed out. I will definitely have to make it out next time.

You're working?

August 17 is bad for me. How about the 24th for the next one?

I was given 60 day notice that I was being laid off on July 7. THis is required under the WARN act. My wife was put on immediate paid admin leave that day while I was asked to wotk through my 60 day period. Since IndyMac was headline news for a couple weeks straight, I was asked to work in the branches as part of a contingency team made up of Indymac managers. Last week I worked over 60 or so hours as a teller. And believe me, those counters are nowhere neartall enough for me, so back, neck and shoulder stiffness was present.

I will have to ask my wife when we are at the beach house in August. I think the 24th may be the day we check in.

I just got back from a 3,200 mile road trip in the Camaro up to Idaho, via Santa Cruz, CA, and Seattle, WA, to visit kids both ways. Anyone up for a Cruise the Crest soon? It doesn't look like there was one while I was away.

Won't work for me next weekend.

No good on the 14th. Kids B-day party.

21st. is good for me.

The 7th is the 19th annual Belmont Shore Car Show. I'll be there, parked right off the main stretch at a new friends house. Will be grilling burger and hot dogs all day. Come down and check out the cars.

The 21st might work for me, it's the day after my bachelor party, so it may or may not work!
