I have found a set of wheels I really like, and the price is def right, problem is they only come in a 17x9, 6" backspce, and 17x10 6.25" backspace. They are 5x4.5" patterns, and I have found some billet adapters that are 3/4" thick, so that would make the fronts 17x9 with 5.25 backspace. The backs I think will work fine. The car has stock control arms, ls1 brake swap. Is anyone running something pretty close to this up front. Read that 17x8 4.75 backspace is pretty much the norm for a right on top of the tires ride height and good clearance. If I am understanding this right, this will put and extra 1/2" inside and outside. I've seen a few cars running the 4th gen wheels, which I think are 17x9, with 7" backspace and 2" adapters, but havn't really seen one sitting pretty low, or read what clearance problems they are having. Thanks for any help.

Well my best guess is it can work depending on what size tire you run. Your math is correct and your reasoning is correct. There are several cars running 245/45-17s in the front. A 9" wheel is the widest recommended width for a 245/45-17 tire. There are cars here running 275s on 9.5 wheels in the front (see Carl C's web page) but there are also some guys or gave up on trying to get them to fit. 10s in the rear may be an issue also. As I'm sure you have read it's been stated over and over all these cars are a little different and what works for one may not work on another. If the car has original sheet metal the amount of room changes. Ride height and spring rate are all variables as wheel as alignment. I would rethink the whole thing and decide if I really want to buy something that I have to use adapters to MAKE work and still have clearence issues. If you want the car to sit really low I think you're going to have at the very least rubbing and/or sheet metal cutting into tire sidewall or worse tires bending sheet metal. What's most important stance or having this set of wheels on the car? If it's stance I think you know what you should do. Good luck with whatever you decide.
