I am getting ready to purchase a set of 98-02 Blazer spindles with the sealed hubs to run on my 87 Monte Carlo SS. I am wondering if anyone has any information on getting or making a bracket to mount the calipers and 12" rotors from a 2002 Z28. I have seen a lot guys mounting 13" C5 rotors, but my Torq Thrust IIs won't allow it from what I've been told. Hope someone can help.

What dia wheels you running? 16"?

If you do decide to go with C5 brakes, I would seriously look at all the costs of a blazer spindle and brake brackets vs. an ATS spindle. Keep in mind you get better geometry and a better hub with the ATS spindle. If you're coming up with similar costs, do the ATS spindle.

If you do the blazer brakes, then I guess you do save quite a bit.

I got mine for $100 for the pair, with hubs. Compared to over $600 for the ATS ones.

02 Sonoma spindels are different than 98-02 2WD Blazer spindles.

I'll look for pics, but the 98-02 "Spindles" use a hub with bearings, a slip on rotor & 2 piston calipers.

Can't find any good pics on the net, I'll take some pics of mine later.

I would do a 2100 belltech spindle and LS1 rotors and C5 cailpers.

Im doing S-10 big brake kits, and i have brackets for that.

And that set up will fit in a 17" Eagle 211(they look just like TT 2's) Not sure if they fit 17" american racing TT 2's.

I have the same setup except using C5 calipers, "sadle" brackets & rotors. I felt they fit better than the LS1 ones did. But now I don't remember why.

Are those just stock spindles or did you have to drill anything?

Samckitt

Stock spindles. Only thing I did was hit it with a grinder just a "tad" in picture 4 & 5. Pic 4 is on the lower left side where the adapter bracket interferes with it, & in pic 5 where the black bolt needed a little clearance.

I'm running 17" Torq Thrusts. They were purchased when I it was still running all stock components, so it has the stock backspace. I have a brand new set of calipers for a 2000 Z28 SS. I've been told that these are the same as the C5, only they don't say "CORVETTE" on them.

Are the C5 Z06 calipers different than the regular C5's?

Yes. I have been trying to find my CAD files and/or drawings of the brackets. But am not having any luck.

I don't know. These are almost 13" dia & 1.25" thick.

Are these brackets readily available from you?

Not at the moment, but if I can find my drawing for them, or redesign them, I can (should) have some made.

Is that an AutoCad Drawing? If it is, what version? I have 2006.

c5 zo6 is red, c5 regular is gray/black...i think those are the only differences

Mine is a Unigraphics NX file.
I may be able to view that at work. We have a few different programs for viewing blueprint/design type files

Sorry about that. I thought you were indicating you had located them. Would that same bracket work for the 12" Camaro rotors and caliper? I'm not sure if the saddle is different between the C5 and Camaro. If it isn't, at least now I have an idea of where to start. How thick is the bracket, looks to me about 1/2".

Samckitt
06-24-2008, 07:50 AM
The "LS1" Camaro saddle bracket is different than the C5 one. With the Camaro one the adapter bracket has to be put on the other side of the Blazer spindle & long spacers are needed between it & the saddle bracket.

I started with 1/2" & had a "tad" machined off.

twfurst

Is that a steel bracket, or aluminum?

Samckitt
06-24-2008, 09:16 AM
Steel

Did you have to change the wheel studs at all? I wouldn't think so, considering that the hubs had slip on rotors to begin with.

Samckitt
06-24-2008, 11:29 AM
I did. For 2 reasons. 1 - safety because the existing ones didn't protrude past the lug nuts, without spacers. And 2 - with a 3/16 spacer (because wheel barely rubbed the caliper) made reason 1 even worse.

What length did you end up going with? Did you get them at the local parts store, or order them from someplace like Jegs or Summit? Sorry to be asking so many questions, I'm just trying to be as prepared as possible.

Samckitt

I bought them from Summit, they are made by Moser, P/N: MSR-8255. They are 12mm x 2.5" - .505" knurl

I have the bracket kit available to mount the C5 13", C5 13.5" Z51, or the C6 14" Z06 brakes onto the Blazer(ZQ8) spindle.
kit includes:
2 brackets
4 bolts to mount bracket to spindle
4 bolts to mount caliper abutment to bracket
2 shims to replace the dust shields
loctite

the older style aluminum bracket is still available, the C6 14" Z06 brakes will not fit this bracket. A new design steel bracket is now being supplied with the kit, all C5/C6 brakes will fit this new steel bracket.

Will you sell parts separately? I would like the dust shield shims.

from my experience the only difference between camaro ls1 front calipers is cooling fins and corvette on them .bolt spacing, hole placement is the same .if you use a c5-6 conversion bracket caliper will be 1/2 inch to far out for12 inch ls1 camaro rotors. i found this when i started building my own brackets for 1st gen camaro spindles using a pattern i got off the web had to pull holes in 1/2 inch so pads didnot hang off rotors 13 inch vette rotors wont work with 16 inch wheels
