i'm usng an external fuel pump and was wondering if i can put a tee fitting between the tank and pump and run the return line into the tee rather than back to the tank?
if it has to go back o the tank, what is the reason for that?
it seems to me that as long as the return line is behind the pump that any extra fuel would just cycle back through without needing to go into the tank.

Might work. I would think it would need a regulator or bypass at the pump so you don't burn it up. Dunno.

Gas would get pretty hot ran like that.

I think you could keep the designated pressure to the fuel rails like that. But, I too think you'd put a lot of heat in to the fuel by putting it in such a tight feedback loop.
It might work though.

Somewhere I read that one of the early F body (I think) LS1 motors did not run a return line, it had the regulator at or near the pump, so it "returned" to the tank without going up to the motor. That way only one line is needed. But I can't find any info on it anywhere.

you could always run a vette filter/regulator.

that's kinda where i got the idea.i was checking out a 68 firebird that a shop put a ls2 in and that's how they run it.they put a tee right before the fuel pump then had the vette filter/regulator about 2 feet after the pump.the vette filter has a tee on the end so they just looped it back from there.the car fires and runs, but they haven't driving it.i thought you had to have the return coming off the fuel rails.
