I was just fooling around with my scanner and found a picture of my car the day that I brought (drug) it home....what a "Basket Case"!

Show what you started with....here's mine!

Wow...thats quite impressive Steve. Looks amazing...the "after" pic, that is.

Here is the earliest pics I have of the Chevelle. Mind you, this is after the front clip and doors were put back on. Not as "basket case" as some, but use your imagination.

I'm loving this thread. Nothing beats seeing an old classic brought back from the near grave and returned to glory. Some great examples, you all should be proud. And I'll 2nd what Ben said...one of the nicest late 70's Monte's I've ever seen.

And this is 18 weeks later....Dramatic isnt it? I got Best of Show this weekend at a Car Show in our area.... I finally beat out some of the 30's and 40's Roadsters....You guys ever notice how hard those cars are to beat for the Best of Show category....It seems that the Large Rolling Fender Cars win atleast 80 percent of the time at the open show's....But, I finally did it in my third show....

I don't have a pic available right now, but my '57 Chevy Handyman wagon was purchased for $100 delivered to my house, 30 miles away. After the guy I bought it from took the rest of the scrap metal out. That's right, it was on its way to the scrap yard. I can't wait for the first person to tell me I 'ruined' a classic.

Been lurking on here for a while, getting ideas for my future pro touring project. This thread and particularly this post gives me hope that I'm not completely insane.
My project is a '76 Falcon Coupe. Its very rusty, though not as bad as your Mustang. The body was found on a farm. It had been sitting in the weather for years.

This is something like what mine will be like (hopefully), when its done.

I wouldn't say I started with a basket case, but I did drive it until it was a basket case. I bought it in '88 in mediocre condition for $1200, drove it for 7 years until it was this (and yes, that's my fat ass):

Any info on that 944 in the background?

I'll ask next time I'm out there. Probably this weekend. Sorry, he doesn't have any Opels sitting around.

I didn't set out to win this thread, but thanks for the votes. I found a couple of more photo's to add to the humor. In the one I had a handy man jack between the shock towers to winch it in the trailer and had to hook on through the shifter hole to keep the car from tearing in half. Also had to pull th original 6cyl out in the prairie cause the owner wanted to keep it, so that got cartwheeled over the radiator support with the winch. Sounds a little redneck, but effective and FUN!
Enjoy:hammer:

Believe it or not the fastback was parked in 74. Only 9 years old with patch panels in the floor. Sadly when they parked it over the hill it ended up being in a low area that became a water shed for aprox 10 years. Makes for a good story.

Yes we did buy it at the Unique auction. We actually bought two. We are going to use parts to convert a coupe with one and build this car. Yes it will be a lot of work. We are not going the Eleanor route with this car we feel its been a little overdone. We are going to put the side scoops on it and maybe a spoiler decklid but thats all. It will be an awesome first car don't you think.

And I thought I started with a pile! Frank & Fatblockford you win for starting with the biggest heap, Oeste you win for starting with a VIN tag.

This isn't a Pro-Touring car but I do drive it and I thought you might like the photo's. I originally bought it for parts.

A decade ago you had to use wrecked cars. Here are the 68 Firebird and Camaro parts I bought.

Been a while since I've posted here, been in "lurker" mode for quite a while, but this is a thread I can contribute to! Mine isn't really a "pro-touring" car, with the stock looking BBC, TH400, stock style disc brakes, and nothing yet done to correct the suspension geometry, etc., but here's what it looked like when I got it in '99

Still a ways to go but she should be wearing lemans blue with Z28 stripes soon. Now that graduation is almost here I can sink a little $ into her.
