:help: Hey guys, I just spent the whole day last Saturday stripping off 40+ years of road grime, oil, road kill, what ever else there was under there. I am looking for info on a paint that I can use on it. I was thinking something along the line of a simi flat black with a fine texture to it. Nothing like rhino liner. I think that makes it look like you are hiding something. (sorry if you use it) I have a nice floor with no rust and want it to look nice. Any help would be nice. Thanks.

I plan on hitting the inside of my floors and underneath the car with Por 15 Chassis Black.
No undercoating or truck bedliner for me. Ever tried to remove undercoating from the bottom of a 67 or 68 without a lift?
The Por 15 should last the rest of my life. And thats good enough for me!

wood scraper (because it dosent flex like a puddy knife) and a bottle of propane. I also used cheap brake cleaner with a scraper. That works good. HUGE MESS! Then use a wire wheel with my dewalt to clean up the left overs.

I had that crap under my last 68 I had...
It was there when I bought the car..
Needless to say the crap was still under there when I sold the car!

My 69' Firebird had a heavily pitted surface rusted trunk floor...I used Rustoleum Red oxide rusty metal primer on it....11 years ago. then painted it with black rustoleum 3 years ago. That floor has shown no signs of new rust and has held up quite well.

I just bought another gallon...using it on the 74' turbo Monte I am doing now. Its cheap easy to clean up and seems to get the job done....I crawl under the car with a paint brush and a wire brush and clean up frames and fenderwells anytime....It flows out well and dries smooth rarely showing brush strokes if its applied heavy enough.

Are your floors now bare metal? 5 years ago I had new floors put in and did the underneath in POR15. They look brand new. If I had it to do over I'd buy a touchup gun and use a two part primer.

BrownZ, looks great under your car.

Mine is all original. I had a little rust on the front floor board. Looks like the owner before me had ran over something on the freeway and it poked a hole in the pan then it rusted from water getting on the carpet. I changed that section and it looked so good that I had to make the rest of the floor match it.
Crazy how we make the underside of our cars look so good and no one hardly looks at it.:screwy:

My first major car show back in 1988 at Super Chevy in Indianapolis that is the first thing that judges looked at. I seen some people posted about using primer for the floor pans. Actually, I did that inside the car and it rusted. I always found that paint was the best protectant, and my car is painted inside and outside.

Thanks, it took a lot of work to get it that way. Although, it was somethng that I aways wanted on my car.
