Yestarday my friends and I left St. Louis about 6:00 a.m. to drive up to the Goodguys show in Indy. I drove my Nova. Not too bad of a drive, there was a light rain off and on for most of the trip until Effingham. There the rain stopped but it didn't look good north and east of us. We almost made it to Casey, Illinois when we were stopped on the highway. Hwy 70 was closed just east of Casey due to flooding. They diverted us around the flooded portion on a side road. The small bridge we had to cross was nearly under water as well, the water was only about a foot from the bottom of the bridge.

We got back on the highway after a long delay and were doing okay until we were stopped on the highway once again just past Terre Haute, Indiana. After sitting in traffic for another hour I had noticed that there no more cars behind us just a dozen semi's. We maded it another mile up the highway and saw why. Hwy 70 was flooded again and no cars or light trucks could pass. They were letting semi's go through. It was about a 100 yard stretch of water. We had to turn around and head back to Terre Haute. We stopped for lunch and found out that all routes to Indy were flooded out. So we had to turn around and go home.

Now I know my car will make a 10 hour trip in one day without a problem. I'll need to get the AC recharge before the next trip though.

Did anyone go to the Indy Goodguys show? Did we miss much?

well it was a good test of your cooling system to sit and idle all that time. it sux that you didnt make the show, but you got to spend all day in your running car instead of wrenching in the garage or worse yet mowing the yard or taking care of honey do's

Even though it rained most of the way up there and I didn't make it to the show, I did enjoy driving my car for 10 hours. The engine never got over 185 degrees even in the traffic. The ride back was sunny, warm and humid but not unbearable. The big block even averaged just under 20 mpg on the way back without traffic. It was 14.5 on the way up including sitting in traffic on the highway.

A coworker's husband came home on Sunday and the highway was still closed. He had to take a 2 or 3 hour detour to get home.

I think we are going to give up on Goodguys at Indy from now on.

Sunday ended up being extremely nice and salvaged the show from Saturday.
