I've been debating how to change the look of my car for a while, and finally came up with this idea - painting the spokes on the rims. There are a lot of new styles out there that really look great with the painted centers and polished or silver lips. Here's the photochop that Todd S. (LateNight72) did for me. He did a graphite/charcoal gray on the spokes, and I really liked that idea.

So, after several hours of cleaning, prepping, masking, and painting, here's what the wheels looked like.

And here's how my car looks now.

I used the Duplicolor Graphite Wheel Paint and Clear, and I'm very happy with it!

Thanks for the compliments guys! I like 'em more every time I go out to drive the car. Now it's time for some interior changes and I'll be set for a while.

Looking good. I think I may have to invest that $6 to improve my lame 15 inchers.
Not a big G-body fan but I really like your car. Clean and simple. :twothumbs

Thanks Tony, and I'm really glad you suggested that graphite color in my other thread over using the black!

I've used it many times on different things, even a set of completely rusty steel wheels (it never flaked once)... I'm really impressed with that paint.
Looks like a great tape off job too!

Ive been thinking about doing the same thing on my Torque Thrust IIs on my Camaro and the color is exactly what I am looking for, But I didnt know how it would hold up. What steps did you go through to prep your wheels? It really looks great.

I scuffed the original clearcoat with 400-grit wet/dry sandpaper, then wiped them down several times with Prepsol. Once I taped them off, I wiped them down again, then primed them with Duplicolor's Adhesion Promoter; it's sort of a clear primer that helps the paint stick better. I shot two coats of the Adhesion Promoter, then 2 light coats of the Graphite, followed by a heavier coat of Graphite. Once that was dry, I shot 2 light coats of the Wheel Clearcoat, then 2 heavier coats of the clear. It went on pretty well, even from a rattlecan! Just shake the cans for a while before you have at it, follow the dry time directions on the cans, and it should go pretty smoothly. Good luck, that color would look awesome on the TTIIs!
