I was involved in a hit and run

Coming home from a date no less. The date went well. The drive home.... That coulda been better. So, I was on the freeway going with the speed of traffic, which was around 70-75 mph and I get hit by some douche doing around 90+. The guy started to run, too, but I was able to stay next to him and get him to pull over. But I didn't stop in front of him, so he wound up running. And the CHP took an hour to get to the scene. I'm alright, but the CHP has the vehicle description, driver description, passenger description, and the license plate number, and I don't think they're gonna do anything about it. Hell, I'd be surprised if they did anything.

Oh, and with the crash, I've seen a lot of people spin out or get the car smashed beyond belief, but my car so far doesn't seem that bad. I have to inspect it in the daylight still. I was also able to keep complete control of the car. It was amazingly easy. I was kinda shocked. I just wish it had more power so I could have chased the jackass down and stopped him again.

Cop point of view: You're right about the follow up by CHP. They'll take the accident report and enter it into the system. They may gain an authentic name of the registered plate owner and then again it may be bogus...it all depends why other than the fact they hit you were they running. If it's all viable a bolo is put out (be on the look out) or a message may pop up on the mobile computer that this car is wanted in conjuction with a Hit and Run. So will there every be justice? Maybe, but sorry to say not everyone gets their day in court. Sorry to hear about this.

The trunk lid is pushed up a little because the framework of the opening was pushed up. The bumper is pushed in an inch or two. I know the trunk leaks big time now because I can almost see into the trunk with it shut. It shuts, latches, and stays closed, and is reopenable as well. What I have to do now is take pictures for the insurance guy, and replace the motor mount that broke because of the accident. Then the car is driveable again with no real issues besides the trunk.

It was on 101 in Millbrae. If it was on 880, the guy would have probably shot me for getting in his way and screwing up his car with my back bumper while I was moving forward.

Not limiited to just the CHP. My girlfriend was hit by a hit & run driver and the city cops didn't do anything. She had the same info as you (w/o driver) and they told her not to worry about it since she has insurance and that they don't follow up on hit & runs unless someone was injured.

He got away with it. The more it happens the more people will be encouraged to do it.

A couple of years ago my wife was part of a 4 car hit and run accident. She was plowed into by a van and it pushed her into a Range Rover who in turn creamed a Benz who smashed a pickup. The van limps off pouring water from it's radiator. I get the call from the wife to pick her up. When I get there it's a mess - 4 vehicles totaled and the driver of the Range Rover is complaining of a neck injury.

So off her car goes to the junk yard while I pick her up and take her home. On the way down the road to turn around there is a smashed up van on the side of the road. I call the cops but they dont' respond. Seems they are too busy to follow up on a 4 car collision totaling over 100k in damages and injuries!

Later that day I go to look at her car and get stuff out of the trunk. There imbedded in the rear bumper is the license plate of the van. So much for on-site police detective work. So I again call them to inform them I have the license plate number of the van who caused all the damage. Again, they can't bother to come out. WTF? To this day no one was held accountable for a really bad accident that was a slam dunk to find the offender. Who knows how many other accidents he may have caused?

Everytime the police call asking for money I tell them this story and then tell them to F off and hang up. Cops are some of the laziest people I've ever met.

Ya not all are lazy..... I was leaving the movies last week and saw a 2 cops in a squad car in the parking lot of the theatre i went by and they were lookin at his myspace i of course make a comment saying, "Wow I'm glad our tax dollars are going to fund real police work," obviously rather sarcastically. Well procede to leave and get to about the thrid stop sign and see the headlights of said cop car haul ass past the car behind me putting himself behind me. I stop at the stop sign wait my turn and take my left. I get by Outback and he throws his lights on.

He comes up to my window after i pulled over in a parking lot and asks for my liscense and registration i kindly give it to him and ask what the problem was. He comes back with, " So you think its funny making a joke about me checking my myspace huh?" I'm like officer I'm sorry my comments were uncalled for and he goes back to his car. 15 minutes later he comes back and say's, "who's laughing now, I could have been doing real police work." I'm think ya you could have been doing it but you weren't. He ended up giving me a warning.

All in all i caught a cop being lazy checking his myspace and I get harrased. So ya i would say 90% of cops are lazy sacks of ****. I have more stories of lazy cops if you'd like to hear them. If only I had a camera to take a picture of it. Talk about a perfect t shirt to sell lol.

Hey. Be easy on the cops. There are some really good cops out there. More than there are bad ones. Maybe it's just the area you live in. Go on a couple of ride-alongs and you'll see what really happens out there. Think of looking at it on the other side of the fence. They are paid to babysit all of us...and a lot of the public are lazy sacks of ****. It's a tough job. The percentages of lazy sacks of **** in the public outweighs the percentages of cops that are not doing their jobs well. Keep that in mind before judging them.

I kinda see it Tony's way too. I've had many more "bad" experiences with police than good but then again they are usually giving me a traffic violation and i've been fortunate enough to never need their help with anything.

That said cops constantly deal with the scum of society. It would be impossible for me not to become jaded against the general public if I was a cop. Hell just working in retail sales tends to dull your nice side and bring out the worst IMO

I would completely agree with that. I live in Fort Myers, FL not a whole lot going on around here and cops for the most part seem to do it cause its an easy job (thats around here only). I am by no way saying all cops are lazy sacks of **** just all the ones I seem to encounter have a stick up there ass or the short man syndrome. To all the cops that actually do their jobs and do it well my hats off to you.

The insurance company put a lein against the vin and there was an impound order put on it by the police. That means if they sell the car and the new owner does not do a title seach they are in for a $6000 bill to title the car and register it. Also, if the car gets pulled over it gets taken to satisfy the lein. I guess passive agressive works here.

Take the license plate #, get on the net and find where it is registered. Pay them a visit to see if the car is there. If it is, call the cops and bust his you know what.

Why do you think they have title search companies? Auto are such a relatively small investment people do not search the titles.
