68 Camaro with LS1- Looking for cold air intake ideas

Anyone have good ideas on a simple cold air intake system?

Spectra's stuff is ok but I think i need around 18" straight and I dont want three 6" tube's coupled together. 04-05 GTO look like it might work but I hate to spend $300 fif it dont fit, has anyone tried it?

By your sig I'm assuming you have an RS car?

At what level do you want cold air? Is putting the filter in the front corner of the fender OK, or do you want to source the air from outside the engine compartment? If the car is an RS it makes a big differance if you want to source the air from the outside.

I actually sold my RS car, need to change my sig. I would like it in the drivers side front corner.

It can be done easily using parts from http://store.airflo.com/rubber-hoses---clamps.html and a K&N cone filter. Ebay may also have some parts that will be useful.

I don't think a GTO air filter housing will fit, and the outlet faces slighty forward. The intake tube might work if adapted to a cone filter and the MAF. Try to have straight sections forward/aft of the MAF.

I am selling the Street and Performance 90 DEG. Air Intake that was on my car. If this worked for you, you could extend the filter down to a location that would pick up cold air. Let me know if you are interested.

Here is what I did, I bought all my pieces from intakehoses.com, and the 3.5" metal tube is exhaust tube from summit. I put the filter in the fender behind the headlight, I am going to make a block off panel to keep hot engine air out.

what belt drive system is that? GTO I assume. My front steer rack sits on my alternator and I cant get the correct angle.

Thanks for the info, whats the lenght of your straight intake pipe?

Its the corvette drive system, I think the straight pipe is about 18" long.

Does your ECM have any problems with the MAF being close to the elbow?

Well now that you mention it, possibly, my LTFT's are really high at idle and even set a DTC code, this could possibly be what is causing that. Other than that it runs fine. I might try moving the MAF and see what happens.

Though it seems hard to find any significant data or OE recommendations, it seems at least 3-4 diameters of reasonably straight tubing downstream is needed for the MAF to work correctly. I'm trying to get 2-3 diameters upstream as well and will run the screen.

A 3.5" pipe is more than sufficient, makes routing easier, and allows the air to straighten out in less lenght. The actual flow area of the MAF is even smaller than that.

Use 78-90 MM tubing with at least 6 inches between the TB and the MAF.

Where does your MAF sit?

The kit was for a 2005 Chevy truck with electric fans.

MAF is under the DSE cover next to the filter.

Terry your car looks great!! I ended up buying parts from intakehoses.com and a k&n from ebay. I will get some pictures up soon. Drove the car for the first time this afternoon!! LS1's not running so good once up to temperature for some reason. loads up and basicly has a hard time moving itsself off the road? Once it cools back down she runs great for a couple minutes.
