I've noticed the "pro-touring" trend for over ten years now. I have a broad interest of vehicles that I like. For reasons unbeknown to even myself, I have realized that different styles or looks work for different kinds of vehicles. For an example, I registered to this forum for some advice in getting a Cadillac Escalade engine/tranny into my former '78 Chevy Malibu. I was referred to this site by two other forums concerning this swap. Now I would like to update the powertrain, however, the suspension will remain the same dragstrip theme (small wheel/tire up front, larger wheel/tire in the back with lift bars) that I left off with.
Almost a year ago I sold my '78 Malibu for an economy V6 pickup. Since then, I befriended the girl who bought the car. I have a feeling that I will be working on the car again. The girl is hard to get in touch with, but when she does call, she usually needs some help or advice with the powertrain. So this is where I am now with the Malibu.
As for my other projects; I have been modifying my mom's 1986 Crown Victoria for a couple years now. It started off with a wheel/tire upgrade to 17" American Racing Ansen A69 wheels and P225 45R17 rubber. Then came the 2.5" dual exhaust upgrade (BBK Fox Mustang headers and H-pipe, Summit cutouts w/ plumber blastgates, and a '96 Impala catback). I wanted to build a modded hydraulic roller 351W for the car, but with gas prices climbing, I was told to leave the stock powertrain in the vehicle. As of now I am grinding some racing springs to fit the front suspension to increase the spring rate (car weighs well over two tons) and lower the car 1"-1.5". Hopefully I will have enough money saved to do the paint by the end of the summer. IMO, the pro-touring look and mod really fits this car. Here are some pictures of a couple of my projects.
