I am new here and posting my driver/project. This was a gift from my wife:slap: last year after I sold my 86 crew cab dually. The handaling is poor and this is were I started focusing my attension. I am sad to say I am not doing a frame off but the frame has been power coated by previous owner. It has a 350 small block with a demon 650, edelbrock intake, accel billet dist, hooker headers. from thier it goes to a rebuilt th400, and the week link is a stock non posi 10 bolt. I have installed hotchkis coils out back with QA1 adjustables. I have also installed UMI tubular control arms upper and lowers. I shall try to have the front coils and qa1 shocks on this week end. I am looking to do a c5 brake upgrade with the help from you guys. It is running 3" exhaust to flowmasters. this thing is loud.(neighbors hate me everytime I start this thing) You can hear me coming from a block away. The rest of the car is pretty stock. I was able to get my hands on a original Baldwin motion hood and sbc valve covers from a 70 chevelle from NJ Covers are getting polished and hood is getting some minor work done. I will be posting pictures as I go along. I am looking to have a rendering ( any takers) Car will be running 18 or 19 up front and 20 out back. color I am looking at is 2008 corvette otomic orange or two tone with 04 chevy charcol grey on top. This has been a car on a budget.

Finally came up with a name for my project. Project bonehead.

After a lot of number pushing I came with a $10k budget not including the car. I will be foing with some type of ls motor (unless brother in law gives me his 97 LT1 vette w/ 20/miles)trans will be a 4l60e with a 12 bolt. I will be running c5 z06(Tobin @ kore has been a great help w/?) front and rear brakes(paid $80 new) I will be nickle and dimeing what I can, and buying as funds allow(any Sponsor willing to pitch in? I will be posting pic's as time allows. After all this is my daily until I get my taurus up and runing or pick up my buddys 97 wrangler for $800 with 35" tires with a 6 inch lift 4 cyl.

Just a update, I was able to pick up my LS1 today. The guy had a couple ls6 and a ls7 I guess this one was in hes way. Eng was preety complete but will need a new throtle body and water pump as he said the pump had a leak. I also picked up a 93 mustang gt for 2500. This will be my new daily until I get the velle back up and running.

Well its been some time since I did a update. I have gone from the ls1 to a 2000 4.8 to a 2002 5.3 to a 06 6.0 w/ a 4l60e I just pulled out the old motor over the weekend and removed the hole interior. I will be putting in a mild cam(any recomendations welcomed) I have edlebrock motor plate on the way and should ordering the edelbrock headers some. I have also bought the gto seats from a Qnitro(thanks again these things are bad a$$)
I have also placed my order with PRRC for my Rushforth Rated x 20 x 10 out back and 19 x 8 in front but also looking into Whiplash in a brushed finish with a polished lip.(Supporting our site vendors) ATS got the call for the stock spindles with steering arms (NICE)

I am looking at Marquez for some parts the the velle, and maybe ring bros for some hood hinges.

I know I left out a bunch I will post later.

Well project will be slow moving I get $$$ for the build.

Not sure if anyone has this name but if I can have a mod change the name to Project Syckness.

Also Many Thanks to Tyler(ATS),Jason(Rushforth)Tobin(Kore3) Jim (Paradise) for all your help and patience

05-25-2009, 07:06 AM
Nice build btw. I'm partial to the 71/72 Chevelles, that's why I asked. I like the direction that you're going, especially the LS route. Are you going to mini tub it? With the wheel size you're going with, are you going to be able to tuck the wheels?

1badchevelle
06-24-2009, 06:20 AM
not changing the front end just use the pic. I will be using a monte or elco front bumper. Tires not sure yet but looking at 315-35-20 or 305-35-20 for the rear.

Due to cash flow I had to put the build on hold. Well I am finally getting the spare frame to get sand blasted and picking up a couple of low $$ items. I will be coating the floors with por-15 over the next couple of weeks. After that I will be adding some r-blox as a sound deadner. The wife gave me $600 for fathers day under one condition to spend every penny on the car. I may listen to her this one time. I did how ever get this little thing, if anyone wants one let me know.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/06/DSC00039-1.jpg

So at this point over the next month will have the frame and the front and rear suspension on it. a lot of pics to come.

I did confirm its a LQ4 not a LQ9 but its okay with me.

The plan for the motor

thumpr cam 54-600-11
comp timing
7.4 pushrods
titanium retainers
gold comp cams roller rockers 1.72 (8mm)
beehive springs
just help it move a bit.

it should sound a bit better than this

Jack I made a extra set if you need some.

Well I have been busting my head over the last several weeks. I sold the edelbrock intake and decided to to with a ported ls2 intake. I also have been making a lot of calls and research and have bought the comps mother thumpr cam(54-601-11) to give me a bit of hp gain and give me the idle I was looking for. I also will be picking up thier springs and pushrods. I bought the ls2 intake ans started taking my motor apart.
Since I no longer need my truck intake I will be selling the truck intake, oil pan, and a spare ls1 block I have.

Things I need are ls2 fuel rail, ls2 injectors and a 4 bolt 90 mm t/b or parts to adapt ls2 to ls1. if anyone has any of these parts, laying around let me know I will take them of your hand.
Since I do not know how to replace the cam and do the degreing if anyone is local and would like to give me a hand I will keep the beers coming.

here are some pics. That is my four year old boy lending a hand.

I would also like to thank Rick from Hood-Latches.com for coming out and meeting with me. What a great guy, and the parts look killer. Cant wait till he releases the latch for the chevelles.

Brans not a problem I will wait to here back from Jack

Sam-- L-88 hood gives the velle complete diffrent look. I have had this hood for 2 years just sitting around. the hood needs a bit of work but nothing major. I just hope route 66 does not go with the same paint color as I will, since I did see it on the renderings they did for American Hero III

Let me just say from the day I seen the first latch for the camaro on this site I knew this would be a must have for my car. Now months later and very anxtious to see when the Chevelle latch would be release. Now that I had the pleasure to set my eyes on that latch, the quality it is second to none.

Jack took the door strikers but I will see if I have material to make more.

I think the next item in line will be some hood adjusters as my stock ones look like hell.

I plan on making or buying a lot of parts and having a brushed finished.

started to take the front are rear suspension of the car so I can put the parts I need onto the other frame.

Wife and kids were gone on Saturday so I spent the day on the car. Sunday morning I got a ear full from my son as he has to take part on everything that is done to the car.( I was warned by my 5 yr son)

So here are some pics. I will be reusing the hotchkis front and rear coils and qa1 shock front and rear. Only have about 250 miles on them. Also for know I will be using the stock front upper/lower control arms until I can afford the sc&c parts. I am glad I bought parts from ats when I did since I have the spindles and steering arms in boxes for almost a year.

i'm trying to find GTO seats reasonable price but just can't get them, did you put them with their full electric harness? Yes they are going full electric. I am not done as project stalled for the last 7 months that is why I have not had many updates. At one point I was considering selling everything but my wife did not allow me to. I thank here every chance I get. I finally got in the garage this 4 of July weekend and did some cleaning. Now I can get in and start working on it again.

The seats fit a bit high( several post on this on this site) the rear seats is where most of the hard work will be at. fronts are pretty strait forward.

Over the next 2 months I will be working on the fuel system, rear end and start on the interior. (wish me luck):fingersx::cheers:

Anyone local willing to give me a hand and install a cam, springs and push rods?

jilge71
07-05-2010, 03:04 PM
the cam and springs were easy to me but the hard part is the cam and crank gears getting them lined up. i bought a spring compressor from oriellys for like 7 bucks and a air hose that screws into the spark plug holes so that you dont have to take the heads off. it was like 6 bucks. i also bought a pen magnet to get the retainers out of the springs without dropping them. it sure made it easy. i wish i was close id come help! i lined up the timing chain gears before i ever took anything apart so that made it alittle easier too. good luck :fingersx:

I'm glad your wife stood up for your car...good woman right there. I know it's frustrating when a project stalls out for whatever reason....believe, I know. Thing is about selling off your stuff, seldom do you ever get what it's really worth, or even get your money back out of it. These projects are for pure enjoyment and have to be looked at in that light rather than as retirement investments.

I got the rear mocked just to check everything out. I also jumped back on the gto seats and plan on finishing my budget parking brake set for a c5 set up.

Took the dash out. I will be getting a carbon sheet to do the panel for the gauges. Here is a cardboard mock up.

yep. I was going to get one but just decided to try and do my own. I was hoping Anvil would have come out with thier dash since they had a post in 06 or 07 they were working on it. Now that they have completed the hood and trunk I will see if they will do the dash.

No pics to update but have been collecting parts as I was able to. Since we decide to buy a larger house we had to make some sacrifices. Before we buy another house I did not want to have a single debt. I have been putting every penny on paying off what we owed. Unfortunately times are hard and I have most of my extended family unemployed. My dad is in construction, my mom in a flower shop, my sister a teacher, and same goes for the inlaws, all have been hit hard and have been unemployed for some time. That said the paying off the debt was place on hold as well as bigger house to help out the family. That will some up why I felt I needed to sell the car a couple of times not to mention a streak of bad luck that I hope is over.

Now on to better things I think I have most of what I need to run my fuel system. I have the vette filter/regulator with the russell fittings going into a walbro fuel pump,Swagelok fitting and a aluminum hard line. I now need to get some flexible line for the tank to the regulator and from the hard line to the intake. I just found out about edelbrock no longer making the ls swap headers and since I buy direct, I screwed my self by not ordering them sooner. I tried to order them from jegs today at work but got tied up all day and seemed like every time I logged on something prevented me to get the order completed. I came home to place the order only to find out they were sold out. So I bought some Hooker headers and hope they will fit with the edelbrock mounts. I will be ordering the a harness from PSI in the next week or two.

These last several months I have spent very little time on this and other sites. But will say seeing all of the progress a lot of you have done especially Tim( WidowMaker) has definitely been an inspiration. So thanks all for the motivation and hope to be posting some pics soon.
