I just came across a fresh turbo 400 from a 1985 gmc with the 6.2L diesel. Will the tranny bolt up to a 454?

Yes the transmission will bolt up to your 454. It may have a very low stall converter, coming out of a diesel, but it will bolt up.

Mark thanks for the info. I thought it would bolt up just wanted some reassurance. I plan on changing the torque converter.

The valve body is also different. Diesels shift at 2000 rpm, or less generaly. This will cause trouble, more so if you have a performance application.

I can have any stall, for any horsepower made by my convertor supplier. I own European Exchange Transmissions (europeanexchange.com) and been at it for 32 years. We supply other shops with import trannys but I like doing all kinds of street rod transmissions for alot of local guys, and we ship nationwide so if you're in the need I can help.

Well I went ahead and bought the tranny I guess I will have to change the valve body. The real score was the geavendor bolted on the back.. will I need a trango reprogramer kit as well?

I wouldn't stress to much about the valve body change, just put a Transgo reprogramming kit in the valve body and change the governor to a gas governor, or just put lighter springs and weights on the governor and be done with it. Sounds like you did well if you gained a gear vendor. You should love the combination. Let us know if you need any help or any parts. Take care
