So memorial day my jaw starts hurting. Turns out I have an infection. I went to the dentist yesterday after the most painful night of my life, and find out that I need to pull a tooth, and get three root canals all right next to each other.

I spent six hours at the dentist. They shot me up with so much stuff I started getting chills and eventually got sick. Twice. But I stayed until they were done. Now I feel like hell. I haven't slept good in three days. Just thought I'd share.

Life blows sometimes.

just had a crown reattached today. Painless. But when I go back to get the wisdom tooth and molar that the wisdom tooth wrecked pulled... ouch.... A temp cure for a tooth ache soak a tea bag in your favorite spirits like Vodka Brandy whisky then pack it in like a pinch of tobacco.

When I was about 7yrs old I knocked out one of my front teeth skateboarding. Had an implant put it then. It eventually failed and I needed a replacement when I was about 17-18. Now, at 38 I need to have it done again.

Only this time, they have to yank out the old implant.
Then implant a bone graft due to an abscess and some bone loss. The implanted bone will be from a cadaver.....ick.
Then they'll sew the gum shut and I'll have no tooth there for 5-6mos while it heals. I'll have to wear a denture thing in the meantime.....nice.

Then in 5-6mos they'll cut open the sewn shut gum, drill a hole in the newly grafted bone, and put in a new titanium implant stud so they can mount a new crown.

All this will cost roughly 1 LS2 crate engine.

oddly enough true. That's sort of what happend to me. they stripped my gum (with what appeared to be a butter knife!) and put a filling in 1/4 inch below the gumline on my lower k9 tooth. It took 9 hours and was the most painful experience of my life. They did the filling, the root canal, and sewed me back up horribly. It was gross. I didn't go back. Fast forward two years, and the temp filling they stuck in it for the root canal had fallen out. infection had set in at the point where the tooth met my jaw bone and started running down my jaw killing the other three teeth on that side. So, much to my chagrin I found myself back in the chair getting that tooth yanked and the other teeth drilled on.

They did make me a sweet prosthesis though, that gives me back three teeth in my lower jaw. It's taking some getting used to. But I can chew again.

Yeah, my wife has been pumping me up on corn on the cob, ribs etc.

All the things I won't be able to eat for the next 6mos when I am wearing a denture for one of my two front teeth.

I feel for you. I've been pretty lucky with my teeth.

No Soda for over 25 years and I don't eat cookies, candy or sweets either.

However the worst night of my life was after i got off the phone with my Attorney and he told me how much my x-wife was going to get.

That really sucks, guys and I really feel for you. Had my upper wisdom teeth pulled (negative camber and toe-in) and that went great. Ate pizza the next day ...

Had a crown put in last year and it didn't go that great. The apprentice dentist screwed up the initial prep and the novocain didn't really work that well so I felt almost every grind and cut she did. My regular dentist looked at the molds and called me back in. He wouldn't tell me why as he knew I wouldn't go ...

I think I took almost every bit of novocain that place had and STILL felt the grinding. Talk about pain. It got to the point I grabbed the sides of the chair and through the tears, said "Finish it ..."

Hope it goes better for you, Tony. And True, too. Cadaver bone??? Gross ...

Had an implant in one of my front teeth on the lower last August. Luckily they were able to do the implant and pack it with a little freeze dried bone. Took 3 months to heal and I had a little piece of plastic bonded between the two teeth surrounding it. It actually looked OK.

When they took that out to do the final crown, boy did it stink. The worst part to me was when he had to screw out the healing abutment and put in the one that the crown would bond to. He had to hurry because my gum tissue was closing up around it in less than 15 seconds. Then I could feel the gum tissue pulling while he screwed the abutment down.

The cool part was when he pulled out a tiny little torque wrench to torque it down. Price for the torque wrench? $1300. The whole process-for just one tooth. North of $4000.

Good times..

The implanted bone will be from a cadaver...

So, now you'll be a true Dead head, right?

I think I will choose dentures before I spend $4000 one one tooth...

I wanted dentures when I went in. They talked me out of them. Seems it's better to save a few teeth to give the plates something to anchor to.
He told me they'd just slip around and bug me otherwise. But yeah. Im getting "partials". Still cheaper. Fixing the one they pulled yesterday would have cost me over a thousand dollars. Pull it and include it in the partial? only a few hundered.

You feeling better yet Tony?

Oh well that was pleasant.

They yanked the old implant, it pretty much fell out after he gave it a good twist. Then cut open the gum exposing the jaw above my left front upper tooth. The abcess had gone pretty bad and the bone was in really bad shape, so rather than filling a vertical hole from gumline going up into the jawbone, they had to excavate a channel and fill that in. The implanted a hunk of bone roughly half again the size of a medicine capsule.

Then they sewed me up.

The digging out of the old nasty bone was horrific. No nasty smells or anything, but all they gave me was novacaine and while for the most part I couldn't feel what they were doing at the point of attack, the pressure, grinding and vibration was felt everywhere else. There were a couple points that just overcame the novacaine. My back teeth hurt from the transmitted grinding and stuff.

The denture thing is actually pretty darn good. It looks better than my old implant. I was worried it was going to look like a chicklet.

The novacaine has almost worn off, but the vicodin is kicking in nicely.

nope. I still am sore. Especially where my gums were butchered up to make room for the crowns. egads. Eating sucks. I cannot wait till this is over. I too am impressed with the looks of the prosthetics. Even the fake gums look real with little capillaries and everything.

I had a wisdom tooth taken out on tues, after 2 wks of harhl any sleep and 2 trips to the hospital at 3-4 in the morning. What I used for the pain was Kava kava on a cotton bud put around the gum a tooth. But what realy got rid of the pain is a sound machine that the lodger uses, she a alternative thearpiste, it cost about $4000 , at the time the pain was that bad I was thinking of banging my head a agaist the wall to give me something to take my mind off it, anyway within 1/2hr it had gone, realy strange feelinghow quick it went from major to next to nothing ,it can be used other types of pain as well.If anybody interested will find out more about it

I feel for you both guys. My wife had the crown/root canal done last month. The tooth had been bothering her for a year, now, after everything is done, she says she feels no pain at all. There IS light at the end of the tunnel. Oh, and we paid over $2k just last month alone in deductbles/our protions of the bills. Oh well, her teeth/comfort is more important than my car getting done quickly. If she's happy and feels good, that'll be better for everyone anyway. Right? lol

Ahh....so NOW I know what you guys were talking about in the chat room. Sorry I missed this Tony and hope you feel better.

I have all 4 of my Wisdom Teeth impacted and my dentist keeps telling me I'm on borrowed time. I'm just so afraid to go through with it. They are not giving me any problems though...but he said that might change.

I waited too long to get mine out and they compressed my lower teeth. Now my grille is a little jacked up on the bottom. Get 'em out. It sucks but its a pay 'em now or pay 'em later kinda deal.....and later is usually more.

Ouch! the only thing that will ever hurt more is when you receive the bill from the dentist.
