After eating that thing, combined with the rice, beans, coffee, looking down trying to tune, and the twisties, I was not right until well after lunch.

I'm interested. I need to sort out my brake issues but that will hopefully be done over the weekend. If you can help look at the brake forum under brakes stay locked up.
I need some details. Let me know what time and where you guys meet. I will look through old posts but it would be helpful for others looking to join as well.

We meet at the Shell station just downhill from the 210 freeway at the Angeles Crest exit. Heading away from Pasadena on the 210, you turn left at the end of the exit ramp, cross over the 210 and turn left again into the Shell station. Heading toward Pasadena on the 210, you turn right at the end of the exit ramp and immediately turn left into the Shell station.
Meeting time is 6:30am, we generally will wait 5-10 minutes for stragglers. Even if you miss us, head up (staying on the ACH) and meet us at Newcomb's ranch.

Okay folks, the Crest has been fantastic! The road's good, the sun is shining and Carl's Breakfast Burrito is waiting on the forklift for them to wheel it in to him.
Mark your calendars: June 22 at 6:30am at the Shell station.
See post above for directions.

It's a great drive and the food isn't to bad either. You can help Carl eat this burrito I keep hearing about.
EDIT: I saw in your other post that you were doing a car show Sunday. Well you'll be back down the hill pretty early with the full day ahead of you.

Here's a posting that has a link to where we're going:
It's time again to terrorize the Angeles Crest Highway, have a great breakfast, and spend some time bench racing with a bunch of fellow gearheads.
As before we will be meeting at the Shell station at the Angeles Crest Highway exit off the 210 freeway at 6:30am. The 27-mile winding-road drive is a thrill (if you want it to be,) as are the scenic views and the great food at Newcomb's Ranch. Bring any car you want. Heck, don't bring a car at all and hitch a ride with one of the others. I'm hitching since my car is out of commission.
http://www.newcombsranch.com
The early hour is so that we won't be blinded by the rising sun. It will make for a great morning.
Chad,
You could easily eat that wimpy littly burrito. Don't let the silly comments about it intimidate you. Get it. Eat it. I want to watch.
You going to have the new shoes on the Camaro in time for this run?
Nessumsar

New shoes depends on the shipping gods at this point. Though it's a catch 22.
I might have to go to Sacramento that weekend but if the shoes don't come by Friday and have a chance of coming Saturday then I'll have to stay home and then could make the cruise.

I'm doing a car show in Sierra Madre on Sat. 21st, so the car will be all shined up. if anyones near by, stop and say hello. 7am-2pm should be around 150-200 cars, some nice stuff was there last year.

06-19-2008, 05:10 PM
Damn, I really want to do this one of these times. Only problem is that I'll have to get up WAY too early to get to Angeles Crest by 6:30. If I want to haul some ass getting there, I can do it in an hour and a half. That means waking up before 5:00, which doesn't really agree with me. Still sounds like fun, though.
I am down with the dragstrip meeting idea. It would be cool to get together for a test and tune or something. I know most of us don't have drag cars, but I've been itching to get out to the strip for a while. Just need some slicks and I'll be ready to see what that blower can do. Does Pomona even do that kind of stuff anymore?

There are many safe places to leave the car. The bottom of the ACH in La Canada is a gathering place for hikers who carpool to thier destinations in the Angeles National Forest. Just park on the uphill side of the ACH (across the 210 overpass) and walk back down to the Shell station.

Not exactly the "enrichment" I had in mind. :barf:
Seriously, the car's doing okay. I felt bad last time, you had to concentrate on the computer screen and missed the scenery.
IF you want to (purely voluntary), five minutes spent on the MAP AE is probably all it needs, if that.

How does July 20 work for the next run?
Mkelcy
06-22-2008, 09:18 AM
July 20's good for me.
What a great drive today! Climbing out of the heat (even at 6:30 am) into the cooler temperatures of the mountains was great. It was also nice seeing familiar faces and meeting new folks.
Those of us who do this regularly really need to try to recruit some more participants.
And we need to remember cameras!

July 20th works for me as well. And we should probably exchange phone #'s, or maybe I'm the only one without them!
My drive home was no fun, so hot out there by Irwindale! Much better down here near the ocean.
It was good seeing you guys again, and nice to meet everyone else. I'll see you guys next month.

Cool run guys.
We made it back in one piece.
I started a punch list of things that need to be fixed before long
Seats
Belts
Cage
fix tire rub
fix leaking gas from vent tube
Clutch
Thats all for now,
Mkelcy
06-22-2008, 09:48 AM

There are several other ways to head down to Long Beach from the La Canada area that don't involve going out to the 605 at Irwindale. You can head away from Pasadena on the 210 to the 2, take the 2 south to the 5 and the 5 south to the 710.
You can also head south on the 210 toward Pasadena and follow the signs for California Boulevard. At the signal at the end of the freeway at California Boulevard keep going straight to the T intersection and light at Columbia Avenue. Turn left on Columbia and then immediately right on Fremont. Take Fremont south to Valley, turn right on Valley and then jump on the 710.
Both are relatively shorter for both distance and time.
No comments on the burrito?

I hear you on everything except the cage. I took one ride in my car with the stock seats and immediately started looking for replacements. Assuming you have shoulder and lap belts already, a better seat might eliminate the need for a 4 point harness if that's what you're thinking.
However, cages strike me as particularly dangerous unless they are VERY carefully designed to TOTALLY eliminate the possibility of a skull hitting a tube. I'd hate to be in a survivable accident and be killed by my cage.

I agree on the seats vs. cage. Harnesses don't help with stock seats. I know. Been there, done that, stock seats stored in the upper regions of the garage.

That was a great run! Last night I think I had a nightmare about "Christine" pushing me off the road... Now looking at the photo I realize it was just the HHR.
I too realized I need better seats and safety belts. I am glad I have the original shoulder belt, but with the original seats there was plenty of room to slide around.
Other than my exhaust leak and rich carb set up which I started the day with, I only have to add a slight rub on the passanger side to my to-do list of items discovered on the run!
I will keep the 20th on my calander for next month. I will also make sure to bring a camera and sun glasses.
Next time I will be looking for Carl's and Nick's camaros., leave Christine in the garage (just joking).

GOt back to the garden state this morning (over night flights yeild little sleep) and wanted to say I realy enjoyed flying up the hills at a briskly pace and meeting you guys. I'm jealous they you have some realy nice roads within your vacinity. haveing big elevation change helps. the highest point in my area is about 2000' above sea level where we stated around that and ascended about twice that. what a trill. :headbang: soon after I went to Mulholland Dr and gave the rental hell. :drive1:other than a lot of tire squeeling, it did pretty good.
I think a few bycyclist engulffed a few galloins of unburned fuel as we accelerated past them. I will post pictures leter on today. If Carl or someone is familiar with compressing/ editing video , I would appriciate some advice on the bets way to do it so I post it. the lat one i made was 8 min long and around 1.2 gigs big. the video is on DV tape , the style they had right before they started using hard drive for storage.
