I have a subframe, innerfenders and suspesion that was painted by the previous owner in por15. It is done in gloss black, and I could live with the gloss just not the fact it was done with a brush it was preped well just the top coat has brush strokes. Its not that noticable but, its got to go I want a smooth semi gloss, but Ive never topcoated por before.

I've used POR15 many years ago when they first came out. They seem to have added more products which I find interesting.

I spoke with a POR15 tech because I had problems with delamination painting over POR15. As well as sanding the surface thoroughly - they now require that you apply their POR15 "self-etch primer" over cured POR15 - then you can apply topcoat.

POR15 has their own semi-gloss paint:

I'd suggest blocksanding the parts with an orbital sander using #400/500 grit sandpaper dry. If it gums up the paper excessively and you find yourself going thru too much sandpaper, then I would suggest wetsanding with #400 grit s-paper to eliminate the brush strokes prior to topcoating. It gummed up too much for me when dry sanding!!

I don't think you can get it to go smooth unless you topcoat it with their primer and then sand it smooth and paint it.

You are in for a lot of hard work and time.

if I remember right you can paint right over it with the chassiscoat black which is the look you want it sounds like, it's kind of the original loophole to convert to a regular coating if the por dried before you could dust coat it to put something over the top of it.
