"Pepe" was sold off last year.
He was a original 68 rs, that I installed a 462 CI chevy.
When I got Pepe, he was runnin on the original 327 on 7 cylinders.
I ran the original 327 for a year back and forth to work, when she finally got tired. I pulled the 327, added the big block, installed TT's,
vintage air and a few other things.
I had Pepe for a total of 4 years.
He was a very faithful car to me, and drove him most every day.
Pepe was my #7 1st gen camaro since I was 16.
I am 44, and sold PePe last year.
This year I bought a 68 RS shell off of ebay.
This car was an X show car, and got into a Garage fire back in 1983 I believe it was.
All the sheet metal has been done, and has solid floors.
Heres where I pic up the project.
I am giving myself 3 years since Im doing it all by myself.
In the end, the (working title) Mystic Angel will have LS1 or LS2,
6 speed, tilt column, 12 inch discs on the front and partial customer interior. She will be a driver.
Here are both pics of Pepe when I sold him, and the new project.

Here are pics of the Mystic Angel.
Like I said, I am giving myself 3 years on this project. I am only into the first week of it.
Right now I am outside trying to strip the subframe and firewall with Airplane stripper. Beats the hell out of sanding.
So far so good.
Ill post pics as I update project.

Today I pulled the front drums, stripped brakes, and pulled the steering box and all
steering linkage.
My original plan was to not have to drop the subframe as the body bushings that are in it are
like new conditon. Problem is, not a one of the body bushings were installed correctly!
So I will end up probably buying 2 inch drop bushings which will bring the car
closer to the frame. So that is changed my plans up a tad.
My other initial plan was since I had not planned on pulling the frame out completely,
I was going to strip what I could off the frame and POR 15 everything, then rebush all
the parts that need rebushing. Now that I have discovered that I may
have to pull the frame anyway, I am going to check with my local
Powder coater Enduro Coating to see what they will charge to powder coat
the frame. If I can get it done then say less than $300, I will pull
the sway bar, and the rest of the control arms, springs, of this next coming
weekend, and take it down to get it all powder coated. If I cant do it for
less than $300, Ill just save that money and go ahead and pull the rest
the parts off the frame and POR 15 everything chassis black the best that I can.
Here are my progress pics for this weekend. Pretty nasty I will say.
Do not pay attention to the galvanized sheet metal on the firewall. LOL!
That is NOT a permanant fixture. What I was trying to do was see how close
I could get to covering up the heater core hole with the sheet metal even
if I had to double up on it. But the metal is way way too thin.
I am planning to order the 18 guage plate from DSE if I can not find any metal
around to borrow from.

ahh.. behind pepe there...
The guy I bought the white RS from was a dealer out in arkansas...
He had quite a few cars out in that field. The field you see in the pic was in the actual ebay ad I responded to. I traded for the RS with a 97 trans am.
I hear the guy totaled the trans am....
So since we are on the subject...heres a pic of the trans am that bought pepe....
I traded straight up, no questions....

This is a 97 and not a 98-02 model...

Mystic Angel Update:
Well I called the powdercoating company this morning.
They want right at $300 to coat the subframe. I was right on the money,
pun intended. So with that, I am going to go back to my original plan.
I am going to save that money and put it towards future parts that Im in dire need of.
Im gonna go ahead and strip the frame best I can, and then POR 15 the frame.
I did it on Pepe, and by the time I put the big block in the car, who the hell was lookin
at the frame anyway...know what I mean?
So if its good enough for Pepe Le Pew, it ought to be good enough for Mystic Angel reckon?
I got a couple of hours daylight left, If I get the inclin' I may go out and pull the
seats...Anyone need a set of original seat cores? Im sure these would make good drivers
as im sure they will clean up rather well... Hope you like Red though.....

I did some more research last night after I posted the car for sale. (glad i did not make a deposit on the TA like I almost did)
I am keeping the project and the diesel...
Reason being, if I sold the Jetta and the camaro
Time you figgure in the difference in fuel (jetta cost me $10 a day to drive @ 35 mpg)
vs ($16 a day WS6 @ 20 mpg) and an increase of $27 a month increase in my insurance premium for the WS6, I would only realize about $70 a month in monatary financial gain over the two once i figgure in financing about 8k for four years....
Not worth it.
Not selling and the project will continue for now.

Old Mesquite...By Mesquite High School.
Pepe is still foating around Mesquite from what I understand. You might of seen him. A guy by the name of "Jason" bought him.
Jason lives around the Paschall Park Area...
I have not seen Pepe since I sold him last year cept for the one time I saw him up at kellers drive in with a car load of people out cruisin in him.
LOL.
I can't wait to get the Mystic Angel ready for Kellers!
You from Mesquite? Do you ever hang out at Kellers up on NW HWY?
I usually am there on sat nights hangin out.

Damn, that's where I am - about half a mile north of Mesquite High.

I don't typically go hang out places; too much to do and not enough time as it sits. Image hosting sites are blocked here at work so I don't know what Pepe looks like to know if I've seen or not.

anyone wants it. Not sure if it works or not, never know.

I got to lay down the base color on angel tonight just to see if I like the color or not. Turned out ok I suppose and I am going to keep the color. I painted the dash. I learned something though. Do not ever try to cover automotive paint with spray can Krylon clear.
(**&*&&*^*&*&*&*&*!!!! IT DONT WORK!!!! :slap:
I just bought enough of my base color to try it out on a few small body parts to see if I am going to like it before I paint the entire car. Next time Ill pick up some real clear.. LOL....
O yea... Becareful with your tack rags.. I evedently had something on mine as when I tried to make a pass over the base I picked up some of the paint in one area!
I think I had gotten some laquer thinner on the tack rag.
Anyways it will clean up ok. Good thing it was only the dash I painted!

Spent the last couple of days and tonight pulled the MR Gasket auto shifter, cut the floor for the T56, pulled the heater box and controls, pulled the AM radio.
Got the dash sanded, preped and ready for primer.
Next up will be stripping the floor pans and getting ready for paint.

Angel Update:
Had a day off from work today. Got the inner floor pans Por 15 along with the inner roof skin. If you are wondering
what the "fuzzies" are on the pans, that is simply old carpet liner that I could not get off. I tried everything razors, scrapers. I decided to leave it as it gives the pans "character." Wont be able to see the fuzzies once I lay down the sound deadner on the pans and roof skin, then of course carpet. I plan on deadening everything. Roof, doors, pans,
and even the rear package tray if I can still get the package try cover to fit right. I will probably spend a small fortune on deadner material. I know there are several brands, have not decided on which to go with. Will probably mid to late next summer before I get back around to the interior. Motor and tranny will go first, followed up by the rest of the interior. That is the plan anyway. O yeah, that is the old interior light that is left on the roof. It will also give the roof "character" until I decide to wire in the new light.
Managed to get the dash primered in. I had enough POR left after doing the pans so I decided
to go ahead and shoot the subframe while I was at it. I will still need to disassemble and bush
the suspension. I should get my govt check tommorrow. I Plan on buying body busings, A arm bushings,
and sway bar bushings and the firewall plate from DSE. If everything goes as planned, I should be able to rebush the front end next
weekend and start putting it all back together including brakes. Once I get the firewall plate from
DSE , I plan on starting that project next weekend too. I was able to cut the
rear quater windows back in with regular body paint. Sorry, no photos yet.
I should have time this sunday to start sanding the inside dash area and getting it ready for
paint too. O yeah! I took a another day off from work Monday too! Lots to do and not enough indians!

Goin fishin with my girlfriend.
I did get in my front suspension parts though.
So lots of decisions when I get back. I think I am going to paint the firewall/dash in two different stages.
I plan on painting the top dash, then the guage cluster, then after the entire dash is painted and buffed mask it all off then jump back to the firewall and finish it. I did get some fill work done on the firewall. I will say this...there is NO hole or DSE plate showing anymore... More to come....

Angel Update:

Started working on some of the body work. The firewall plate is turning out to be a
Mother*&^&^&%^^%______!!! you fill in the blank.
Now I have an issue. That side (passenger side) is going to have about a half inch lift.
I had not planned on putting a panel on the driver side. My issue is going to be
getting all of the firewall to look flush with filler. Any advice welcome.
Started sanding the rest of the car with 400 grit getting it ready for it's first
real good coat of primer. Hopefully this weekend the body will be in 90% primer by
end week. Still need to install front end bushings.

Today Out in the 100 degree heat, I was able to finally get the passenger side in surface
primer. Got a good three coats on it. Will still have some more body prep work to do
where the top of the rear qtrs meet the top roof skin, (look closely at the picture, there is a low spot) and also some more body work on
the rocker panel up close to the front fender.
Hopefully I will get the rest of the car in primer within 2 more weeks. So far everything
is still on schedule as planned.

I am still working on the car's actual theme.
I want to put stripes on.
I am trying to decide which stripe though.
I don't want rally stripes on the hood. Been there done that too many times.
I am considering a bumble bee stripe,
and also striping it like this car I had back in '86.
This is car #5 of my first gens. I know, should have kept it too.
This stripe is not a factory stripe as you will notice, but looks good IMHO.
I am considering doing a side stripe like this, and the wrap around the nose as shown. No chrome, and the lower rocker panels will be cut in flat black for Angel.
What do you guys think?

Got a little more work done on the roof panel, did a little more block sanding.
A little more work on the rocker panel needed then I should be able to go with a second
coat of primer on the passenger side.

Got a little done this evening. Was able to work on the passenger rocker area some more.
Knocked off some surface rust that was starting to form on the door. Took the compressor,
blew the dust off the car and took a tac rag to it. Got in a fairly decent coat of primer
back on the passenger side. Had to do most of it in the dark as my compressor would not
allow the flood lights to run at the same time, kept resetting the breaker.
I should be able to tackle the driver side tommorrow evening when I get home from work. Ill
let the primer set awhile before I start the blocking on it. In the meantime, round mid week
I should be able to jump back on the firewall and try to finish up what I am doing to it
this week. Hopefully the plan is to completly get the firewall wrap up this week so I can
start worring about cutting it back in with body color.

Was not going to post tonight, but since I did something to the car, might as well.

Ran out of daylight and got a run in the drivers door.
Anyway, it will be fine. The roof looks horrible as the spray gun started farting on me
as I did not get the gun cleaned out real good last night.
Anyway, got the driver side covered. BTW, ill be dead gummed if im not going to have to do
more work on where the roof attaches to the quarter on this side too as there is still a
pretty good low spot. Ded nabbit!

Nice weekend to be working on projects. A little hot outside, but otherwize not too bad.
Got the dash area cut in finally. Turned out ok for my standards since its my first shot at
it. Next I will probably move back to the rear section and keep working on the body work.
May get a little block sanding done on the body this weekend. Who knows? I still have
prioritys that seem to always get in the way of the camaro. Bills, and doing outside chores
like mowing the grass. O well, on with the show. Here a few pics of the last couple days

Angel update
Im pooped. Got too hot outside today out in the sun.
Anyway, I got a bit done. I managed to get all my front end parts in primer today,
minus the cowl hood. I had about a half pint of body color left so I thought id
go ahead and cutt in the outer fender edges but ill be danged if I did not run
out of body color right in the middle of the panel! I was so pissed as I tried
to run down to English color and buy some more paint, but they had already closed.
A guy I know says I can order some through Oreillys but they are in irving which would take
me about 30 min to get there. O well. No hurry. If I have enough funds
Ill pick me up another pint this week and finish cutting in the fender edges and then
clear. Then im gonna paint the fender wells themselves and clear.
After much thought, I think im going to change an original plan to paint the firewall
body color, and paint it flat black. Still trying to decide.
O yea, I managed to get the trunk lid in primer too.
I need to complete the tail section, maybe tommorrow and and tie that all in.
The underside of the trunk has quite a bit of old paint on it but it is pretty solid.
May just smooth it out and shoot it body color. Stilly trying to decide on that one.
Heres a few pics of today's work.
