Penny is set to go out for next year's Year One Exp.. then I was just going to leave her there for Power Tour and for RTTH5.

Vinnie has a power advantage and I have a weight advantage, we both run the same tires.. would be fun :)

If anyone has an empty trailer heading east then I'm game for the RTTH4. Even if I lost it would still be fun. lol

Or if Vinnie wants to come west, I'm game. In a month I will have bigger front rollers and by next year I should have another 100 hp or two.. ;)

Cliff notes: bring it!!!

Yea, we'll just have Nick drive each car and beat the snot out of it. lol...

I could care less if my car gets beat on.. that's what it's for. Hell, if I let crazy man Bret drive my car then I can't be too worried ;)

Steve Chryssos

The Mule gets driven plenty hard. I hope we can come together and apply the "Baddest in the Land" label to cars that show up and run. If it's the Mule, so be it. But it would suck for a bunch of us to run our cars hard and then have armchair quarterbacks second guess the results. That would be pretty insulting to those who participated. Even the car that came in last place.

"Baddest In the Land" should be awarded to a car/driver that actually participates, even if some "Badder" car exists in theory or actuality. It doesn't rate if it doesn't run against other cars. No tickey...no shirty. Let's get that straight right now, otherwise, we might as well all sit at home and bench race.

Steve Chryssos

That's fine. Pay special attention to last place. The driver really will make all the difference. So the last place car might have far better specs "on paper" than the second place car.

As a goofy ritual, we should all scotch tape pieces of paper to all of our tires and test how well the cars do "on paper" Should make an interesting photo op.

Hopefully, as a group, we won't poo poo the results if the "wrong" car (on paper) wins. Let's not blame the weather, or the curvature of the earth, or static electricity, or excessively tight underwear.

I don't really think it's even possible to pin a "Baddest PT Car Ever" ribbon on any car. Everyone has their own tastes and what appeals to them and each car is unique in it's own way. The Mule will always be one of those special/legendary cars because of the boundries that it pushed but others have followed in it's footsteps that are very much at the same build level. Cars such as II Much, Penny, Fuel, Mali2ude, the list goes on and on and on. This hobby is a "To Each His Own" hobby and because of that there really can't be a top prize for the best ever.

I don't know...I'm just a backyard hobbyist and that's my $.02.

I know this much. It'll make for a legendary magazine writeup. It'll be fun to participate in, and fun to read. This has all the makings of epic fun and all sorts of win. It should be done just because of that. Power tour got it's start because Scott Sullivan drove his 55 across the country and blew down 10 second quarter mile times when he got there, and then turned around and drove home. That story woke people up to the potential fun that was to be had. That's what is brewing here all over again, I can see it.

what this will do most for us is get everyone out driving there cars like we have all talked about over the years, not still saying" i got this" " i got that part" and more then likely a driver will stand out at the event and most everyone will let him run there car to see where it really stacks up, thats where we will get the baddest pt car, we should do it yearly:bicycle:

I think that is what would be cool about making it a mini One Lap... overall the event is about making it - which is far more of an accomplishment than being the top dog. I think a multi-day, multi-track, multi-"type" event would be a killer deal. Personally I think that this is the sort of thing that creates relationships that always serve to make the whole sport thrive. Everyone always remembers the night that so-and-so cooked this or that and five cars sat at the side of some secondary highway trying to figure out how to build a diff out of spare parts and jb weld.

Wow. 5 pages of discussion about this! I'm not sure exactly how yet, but this Street Challenge event will happen, likely in 2009. In the meantime there are a couple of "warm-up" events to have fun at. The Hotrod Power Tour is having an autocross again this year at the Ames, Iowa stop on June 11th. We had 105 cars run 470 laps aat the Power Tour stop in Evansville last year.
The Nashville Goodguys show is June 27-29. They have moved the autocross to the other side of the stadium where the swapmeet used to be. This will be a much larger venue with a larger track layout. I know the Goodguys tracks are quite short right now, but still better than sitting around in a lawnchair. They are also less intimidating for the civilians who may not want to beat on their cars like the rest of us.
Goodguys is also running an autocross on Friday at the Columbus show. All of the Street Machine of the Year contenders will be required to participate to eligible for the SMOY award. The autocross will be on Friday only because there are 7000 cars at this event and Saturday is a complete cluster**** for traffic. If you want to "play the stadium", Columbus will be the place to be. I hear John Hotchkis is bringing a new 72 Nova...

This is only a few of the available events. I haven't even covered the RTTH event in Pigeon Forge or any of the other Goodguys autocross events. This stuff is a little light on the west coast, but we are working on it for 2009

We'll have the Velocity Camaro and several other air ride cars these events. Come out and take a look or take a ride. Better yet...take a lap. It ALL about the fun!:6gears:

The "last place car" is still badder then the car that was never run... :)

The "last place car" would be me.

LOLDon't be so sure. Seat time is the most important element in these events, not the equipment. I'm sure a lot of us rookies will be hanging out together. :)

I'd do it with my car.

Also it might be kinda cool if there is a event set up to have two different classes(like the Grassroots motorsports event). Have a class for "average joe" kinda cars and another class for cars with 3 and 4 link suspensions, custom frames, and so on. Just a thought.

Ain't that the truth.. the guys at Air Ride knocked nearly a second of my best time in Penny at the autocross..

There's not substitute for a good driver.

It's not just good driving. Autocross is an aquired skill that is lots different than driving on the street or open tracks. Low speeds and tight corners are not really what most of our cars excel at. Well driven cars with half the power / tires / and weight will flat out embarass most of us at a typical SCCA autocross. There is NO SUBSTITUTE FOR SEAT TIME.

I live near an abandoned airport that the local SCCA chapter along with another club and the local corvette club all used to race at. I got tired of all the small courses the SCCA guys used to setup and getting blown off by rx7's and imports so I volunteered to be the event master once. They wouldn't let me run a course with 1 cone placed a half a mile from the starting clocks, but I think we did have the least number of cones ever used for an event, it sure shut the import guys up.

We pretty much got shut out of using the big courses about 20 years ago when the place got taken over with soccer fields and other recreation facilities. The city didn't think racing cars was recreation.

Yea, no parking lot racing or go kart tracks for me :crying:

Sounds like stuff legends are made of (well at least a 4 page pix spread in some magazine at least)!

I agree with an earlier post, if your going to do it then there has to be some kind of class ranking:

shadetree, hobbiest, enthusiest, deep pockets
(you get the drift)

All this talk has the hair on the back of my neck up in excitement.

Will there be a category in which there will be an award for those who don't actually participate but drive their car on the street a lot?:poke:
