Hi there, im new to the site and find it is full of usefull information. so much so that even though I have been a member for almost a month I have had no need to post any questions. But I am looking for a project first gen camaro right now and noticed most people dont post what they paid for their project cars. So I was wondering, in your town, wherever that may be, how much are project first gen camaros going for? I live in Tucson Az. and here and now it seems you can find a pretty rock solid, straight, rust free (best part of living in Az...NO RUST!) first gen Coupe or RS roller for $5500-$7500 so what are they going for in your town?

I need a 69 conv. as a project base. In Seattle I have been unable to find one in the condition I'm looking for. The ones I have found are in the 20k range but not nice even though the owners sem to think so.

In Michigan, there is no such thing as a solid, straight, rust free 1st gen. It's either swiss cheezed or someone's project. Cost of admission is probably double to triple AZ cost

I dont see them for sale too often in Springfield, Mo. The other day i did see a 1st gen firebird for sale for 12k, and i would be willing to bet there were some hidden rust issues there

Same here in Illinois.

Around Houston, a "project" 67-68 that might need some patch work would be in the $7-10K range, without an engine/tranny. The '69s are about $3-5K more, in the same condition.

Ball park, maybe a tad higher here. 67 may be a little more then a 68. Hardtops. Rags are more.

S*#tboxes are $3k.

Saw a pretty clean 68 Camaro 250 for $7500 and a hammered, but mostly straight 68 Firebird 350 for $3700 at a swap meet in Petaluma Ca over the weekend.

Majority of the first gens around here go for $4500-$6000 and have basically no floors left, no quarters, no interior and no motor and tranny. And they are usually six cyl or 283 cars originally so they aren't going to draw in lots of resale if a full restore were to take place. It's getting rediculous up here in the new england. People who don't take interest in cars are buying up worthy $1000-$2000 non ss, z28, etc (not just camaros) project cars that aren't worth much to begin with and charging upwards of $5000. I honestly don't see much of a future in buying cars around here anymore, if i want to start another project I'm going to have to take a trip out to arizona to find a nice base

I gave 11.5k for the Velocity "core" at the Pleasanton GG swap meet last fall. After discovering exactly how nice this car was I would have given twice that for it. No rust, no damage, all GM panels...we could have metalfinished the entire car. By comparison we have done projects that have required over 23k in metalwork to get to primer. IF the car is truly straight and rustfree its like a corner lot...you just can't pay too much.
Obviously this formula changes if you enjoy doing your own metalwork. I have done just enough metalwork and bodywork to truly appreciate a straight car.

I didn't say what i was trying to say correctly. The camaros that are stock 6 cyl/etc that if were to be full restored, aren't worth much in auctions and such, people are selling completely rotted out for upwards of $5000 in my area. Thats all i look for in a project car, a car that didn't have many special options that i dont have a problem throwing my own motor in and not worrying about being original. I dont want to pay the price of a numbers matching SS car unless im doing a full restore, which is not what really interests me, it's not worth the time and money to not able to enjoy the car than something i can throw together in the garage over a month or two and gradually improve over time. But people are taking all these cars, just becuase they are first generation camaros spite not being in good condition and selling them for a lot more than they are worth. I understand paying good money for a numbers matching ss or z28/rs car, but the crap people think is worth money these days is rediculous. I also do have a tighter budget, and less of a desire to specifically own a first gen camaro then most of the users here.

Sky high prices here for the most part. The days of finding a good car for cheap are gone. Every now and then a good deal comes along but you have to look long and hard to find it.

I picked up my '68 shell for $3400 in Central Nebraska. As was previously stated, you don't see too many of them around the KC area. Even after fuel costs for transport I came out well ahead of what you can find here.
The weekend I brought it home I was offered $5k for it on the spot.

It's a 6 cyl base coupe. needed a small patch panel on the floor pan, front clip, doors, tail panel, outer wheel houses, and quarters.
