Pictures don't do this car justice! You have to see it to really appreciate all the attention to detail. It is one of my favorites and I'm bummed that Mike is selling it.

This "economy" doesn't mean jack to those that really have money. To them it's a hickup
Pleanty of rich folk looking to buy toys. What this slow-down does do is stop those that really can't afford to play (ie, taking out an equity line to buy a toy)...

He has a 69 tank in it. Then has a flapper door inside tank to close off filler tube under acceleration.

Agreed....but they will take advantage when they can. Now just happens to be that time.

I believe it's a custom Rick's tank, and it's been modified even more as of late. The guys at Campbell Auto Restoration would know best, besides Mike.
And yes, the car is worth every penny, if not a bit more. It's a great car.

I agree. People effected by this "economy" wouldn't have been in the market for a $100k car before the hickup.

Really nice car. Though I just can't fathom having $225,000 INTO a car. That's nuts. I'm hoping to have less than $25k into mine when I'm done. I'm doing all the work myself though.

if you have to take out a loan to be in this hobby, than you probably shouldn't be in it.....it is crazy to put your home equity at risk, to have a toy in the garage!!!...just wait for better times...IMHO

That's what people were doing.. and it's one reason prices spiked, more buyers.
Guys with real money are still dumping tons into this hobby.

I agree with the statement-
'Appraisals and resale value are two totally different things'
Bottom line - You're only going to get what someone is willing to pay.
Appraisals are good to submit to the insurance guy.
One can only hope for a par of millionaires bidding on your car that really want it for there collection.

I have a 69 tank in my 67. It works fine with a nonvented cap and a vent installed in the float access panel at the top of the tank. No flapper door needed, but it is an interesting idea. It would have to be leakproof though, and moving the vent to the top of the tank is easier.

Agreed, I would be real surprised to see this sell for 90-100K. 75-80K is probably the most he will get for it, and that will probably still take 6-9 months to get. 150K is a pipe dream, both this year and for the past 5 years.

They say that this is an expensive hobby, but $171.5k between the top e-bay bid and the build price is pretty rough.
Hopefully a live auction (Mecum, etc.) would offer a better price.
