It's time again to terrorize the Angeles Crest Highway, have a great breakfast, and spend some time bench racing with a bunch of fellow gearheads.
As before we will be meeting at the Shell station at the Angeles Crest Highway exit off the 210 freeway at 6:30am. The 27-mile winding-road drive is a thrill (if you want it to be,) as are the scenic views and the great food at Newcomb's Ranch. Bring any car you want. Heck, don't bring a car at all and hitch a ride with one of the others. I'm hitching since my car is in a coma. You can also Google Newcomb's Ranch for directions.
The early hour is so that we won't be blinded by the rising sun. It will make for a great morning.

How many people are going this Sunday, I will if I can get the fiancée to come with! Would love to meet you guys, put faces with cars. And it would let me test out my new wheels and tires.

So far from this board:
Steve
Nick
Carl
Gordz
Chad
Mike
Turns out there is some conflict with the LA Invasion gig the same day. They are doing a route starting i San Berdo at 10:00am going up into the mountains as well.
Heck, we'll be just about wrapped up by then!
Mike, you still need a tuning navigator?

Should be fun, but I REALLY need to get my car done!

What about the weather? We still up for it? I may end up in the HHR as the Camaro is giving me an electrical issue.

So how was it this morning? I was thinking about you guys when I was driving home this morning from Anaheim. The weather sucked all weekend.

I thought the weather was perfect; chilly, but not cold. There was some residual snow on the side of the road, but it did not rain on us.
This was the first time I had driven a car like that (fastish on winding roads). I couldn't have asked for my car to do any better, really nutural feeling with no tire noise and no weird anything.:drive1: Nick showed up in his HHR, I was really suprised at how well it handled. I had him go in front of me thinking he wouldn't be going that fast, but he was right on Mike's butt; I had to slow down because my Fiancee got car sick :barf: (minus the barf lol). Carl was riding shotgun in Mike's Camaro doing some engine tunning.
Needless to say I can't wait for mext month to roll around!

I'm not doing any more engine tuning on that road unless I put on a Scopalomine patch!
It was good to meet you both this morning. I hope she did not get too bored during our wrenching session.

I was surprised at how fast that HHR was (and was conscious of poor Carl trying to tune the engine while I was flying around the corners). I dropped Nick a couple of times, but got worried about liquids shorting out the laptop and slowed down again.
It was a really beautiful morning. It was nice meeting you, John, and Sandra.
I went back up with the dogs shortly after we all got off the hill. On the way up I saw the weirdest thing. There was a sheriff's car coming down slowly (2-3 mph) toward La Canada with its flasher lights on, then two female deputies jogging down the ACH next to each other as if searching for something, then about five more sheriff's or CHP cars, then one or two Forest Service trucks, then an ambulance. It was one of the strangest things I've ever seen up there. About five miles past that show, there was another grouping of probably 10-12 LEO cars, trucks and motorcycles as well as Forest Service vehicles and a tow truck or two, but no obvious reason for them to be there.
The dogs and I went up to Charlton Flats, which is about 3 miles shy of Newcomb's ranch. It was on the colder side and overcast with residual snow every where. Really pretty, and very odd for the end of May.

We all had a good time and I was really surprised at how the HHR did. I thought I would be showing up after everyone, but kept up with Mike pretty well. Good to meet John and Sandra. Hopefully more can join next month and my car will be back on track!

I keep ending up a day late! My car wasn't road worthy until Sunday anyway so I couldn't have made it, but are there any plans for another similar event? I would love to join.

We try to do it about once a month or so. June 15th (Father's day) or June 22nd anyone?
