My gto has a 10 bolt posi with 2.56 gears, I was hoping to put 3.31 gears in the car, is it a prob to use a spacer between the carrier and gear? Or are the thickers gears ok to use? Im hoping to reuse the original carier in it, its in really good shape. The car is only a daily driver and it only has a stock 350 it it.

in that case, yes.
The spacer will come with longer bolts, the bolts are special 7/16" left hand thread DO NOT use bolts like Ratech sold by Summit that have 5/8" heads, use 3/4" headed bolts. the 5/8" heads come loose due to too small a seat under the head...
Also there may be thicker ring gear sets available.

What year 10bolt/chassis ??
And... do you want to get rid of/sell your 2.56 gear set ??

I have heard mixed reviews about using thicker gears, Im gonna have to look into it more but has anyone used spacers or thicker gears before? If I find a set of gears im def not gonna need teh 2.56 gears anymore soo yes I will be getting rid of them.

I don't think they make thick gears for 8.5 10 bolts, got to be a spacer plate. Ripped all the bolts out of a 10 bolt with one in my old 64 Impala!
