I have to replace the driver side window crank handle. I got the new handle and they sent me the handle with a clip that will hold it in place.

My question is this... Do I need to remove the panel inside the door or do I need to bend back the paneling? I never replaced a window crank handle or removed the inside door panel so I don't want to damage the panel.

Any help or suggestions would be helpful!

You should not need to remove the door panel to replace the window cranks. Let me do a quick search and see if I can find a pic.

In between the window crank and door panel is a whit'ish plastic dish/washer. In between the white dish/washer and the crank is the horse shoe shape clip. The clip holds the crank on the splined shaft. They make a special tool to install/remove the clip, but I always use a set of needle nose pliers.

With crank off (best pic I could find):

Nice. Thank you for finding a pic and explaining it. I will try with some needle nose pliers and see how it works out.

To put the handle on, just put the clip in the groove on the crank and push the handle on over the splines. the clip will expand and then lock into the groove simple as that, no tools. But getting them off....you can buy the tool at NAPA or wherever, I think its about $5 and handy to have around.

Thanks for the advice on getting the handle on. I am going to have to get the tool to remove it because I looked at it last night and there is no way I am going to get it off without damaging the door panel.
