I am talking to Vintage Wheel Works about a set of their V48 minilite type wheels and I need a pretty deep dish for the rear. They normally do a minimum backspace of 3 - 3/4" on a 11" wide rim, I need more like 3" backspace. They say they can flip the hoop round the other way and give me that backspace. Has anyone seen this? or done this?
Nick
Doesn't sound like the best plan and will be hell on your bearings. Think of all that wheel sticking past the mounting pad as a lever wrenching on your axles at all times. Plus, you'll have a huge step in the middle of your dish. Maybe consider 13" wide so your wheel center will be closer to center in the hoop?

The car is a vintage road race car with large rear flares, so I need that depth. They only make a 17 x 11, so I would rather have the correct front depth and then just send them to Weldcraft and have Jason ad an 1" or so in the back (running 335's) According to the pictures I have seen, the step will be just after where the center section is mounted.
Spent another 15 minutes on the phone with VWW this morning.

yeah Eli's a good guy..put up with my stupid questions.
Had a change of heart with the wheels on the car, the Bonspeeds are beautiful wheels, but I spent all winter working on the period correct racing decals, added the period correct stripe...the car screams 1972 Le Mans...wheels are yelling 2008 show circuit. I think the minilite style wheel will enhance the "vintage" look.
I dont have any rescent pics, but plan on having it out for pictures this weeknd of it ever stops raining New York!
