How do you get those things out without killing yourself? I am tubing a 65 Chevelle, A-body. Any suggestions? I need to get the arms to come down without the spring so I can notch the tub for the arm itself...

not sure what its like on an a-body, but on my g-body, i just wedged a pry bar in on the end away from the hinge where it makes a 90*, and it just popped out.
not sure if that makes any sense...

You can pry them to remove them, but watch out! Lots of stored energy in them. Careful for the back glass too. Hopefuly the glass is out already.
Although I have never experienced this first hand, I've heard of these bars breaking while trying to remove them. what I understand is they will splinter when broken, and can send shards of metal flying with great force. Ouch!

Thanks guys, I will try that a little later and let you know how it goes. The glass is out and I will be wearing some to boot! Thanks for the heads up!

Ok, I just put mine back on the Camaro and used a large straight jaw vise grip. I have always struggled with these and could not believe how easy they went on.

I think the Fisher Body manual has some nice instructions on removal of the springs. I popped em out with a screw driver, just be careful like others said.
