OK folks, so my Bird shall have discs. Of course I would really love to have those fancy 13" 'big brakes' but unfortuantely I can't afford the whole package right now because this would also mean new wheels (I have 15" wheels now), new tires and God knows what else.
Right. I got an offer from Matt's Classic Bowties for a complete kit (11", front & rear), including drilled/slotted discs and powder coated calipers for roughly $1300. This doesn't include hardlines because this would make shipping even more expensive.

Before I bite I'd like to hear your opinion. Maybe there are still better alternatives out there in this price range. My limit is around $1500.

Thanks for your feedback.

Why not wait until you can afford to do it big? You may not be happy with those 11s after you buy big wheels.

BTW, glad to see another bird on this site. Hope you post some pics.

I also thought about that. Decisions, decisions...
OTOH I somewhat got used to my old-school Cragars which are IMHO (please don't hit me, guys...) the second-best wheels to Rally IIs. I will buy new wheels though (sooner or later...) because we only get Cooper Cobras in 235/60 R15 over here. Not the best tire, IMO. A broader/better tire selection would be the main reason for me to change wheels.
I have to admit that I don't like most of the new wheel-designs (at least not on my car) and so far I have only found two wheels which I find 'acceptable' (Cragar Classic 'New' Polished Aluminum S/S and AR TT M Black). I also like some of the Forgeline designs but those are way too expensive for me.

Im sure you can find a nice set of 18" BMW rims and tires in your area for cheap.

I went with the Z06 13" front 12" rear slotted and drilled GM brakes on my car. So far, I am into it close to $1300, with park brake assy. I am doing the conversion myself. These are the red dual pistons on the front and single on the rear. With the raised lettering "Corvette" on the fronts. I still need to get master, booster and lines. So, I think you could hit your $1500 price if you shop wisely and don't mind doing your own brackets. I have seen a wide range of prices for different types of setups. Also, do your homework. Some parts interchange and some don't. There is a ton of helpful information on this site if you do a good search. I have pics of my components in my PT Garage. I will post up pics of my brackets when I find where I put my battery charger for my camera. Best of luck. BTW, your Firebird is gorgeous. Great job. I was wondering where you are. I am thinking Europe somewhere. Looked on your profile and didn't see a location. I am curious because I wonder how the price difference on parts would be if you are.
