I have a manifold and carbs on e bay and some guy from India wants to know if I would ship to India. What does everybody think? He has 100% feedback and has done 87 deals. http://feedback.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=otc62545
I have seen too many people on here pointing out scams so I am a little concerned.

just make sure you get full payment in CASH...no beads! If he's legit he'd understand

I don't think I would unless I had money in hand before shipping, or willing to risk losing the parts and not ever get my money. There have just been too many horror stories about counterfeit checks and other shady deals from that part of the world. This guy may be legit but you would hate to find out different after you have shipped something that far. I guess the older you get the more cautious you become. I may miss a deal, but I have never been taken either :fingersx: . Always, always remember if the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is. :usa:

Get him to pay with PayPal and don't end the auction early.
If somebody asks you to end the auction early... it is a bad sign.

I agree. Be careful. The one thing I'd really worry about though is the shipping. That could be pricey. I'd say it looks pretty good though. Take payment first, don't ship till you recieve payment, and make sure it's a clean transaction first.

Get cash.. if he tries to use a credit card or ANY type of check then run away..
I used to get offers for office equipment all the time from India and Indonisia and in ever case it was someone trying to scam us.
If he screws you and he is in India you will have ZERO recourse to do anything about it. Also make him pay for insurance on the shipment so he is not tempted to do the "i never got it" deal.
Best of luck :)

Paypal IS NOT the answer. Did you know that buyers that use their credit card with Paypal have 90 days to dispute charges, and it you do not reply to the credit card companies satisfaction, the funds are removed from your account? I know, I am in a legal battle with Paypal now.
This is what happened, I sold $2000 of parts, 70 pieces to someone, old NOS stuff. We had talked about him buying for 2 months before he bought, and had enough conversations for him to know I travel out of the country a lot. When we did the deal, he called me and complained about a couple pieces, Said they were scratched. I had plenty of others so I told him to send back the ones he was complaining about. I explained I would be in the Jungle in Costa Rica for a couple weeks or so, and would exchange them when I got home.
He then returned the box with 3 of the 70 pieces. He then contacted his credit card company to dispute the charges, claimed he returned all 70 pieces. Paypal then emailed me and gave me 3 days to respond to the complaint. Of coarse at this time I am in the jungle, on generator power, no TV, no phone, and damn sure no Internet. He knew this would be the case as he expressed interest in my trip.
It is important to note here that I knew I would be taking this trip and had stopped running all auctions, and was sure that all buyers had their stuff before I left. This guy seemed like a nice guy and I really did not think anything of it.
Here is what happened, because I did not respond to Paypal in 3 days, (I could not accesses e mail) and because this guy had a tracking number showing I received a box from him, Paypal took his side, deducted the money from my Paypal account, and instead of having $1200 in Paypal, I was now negative $800!
When I returned home and found the e mails from Paypal, and the negative balance I contacted Paypal to see how this could happen. They explained the 90 day rule, and the 3 day response rule. I appealed and provided my passport showing I was in Costa Rica, my plane tickets each way, and explained there was no Internet. They explained that to prevent this, A SELLER MUST BE AVAILALBE FOR THE 90 DAYS TO CHECK E MAIL FOR DISPUTES. And if one is not available, they will lose!
Now they have turned it over to collection, and are threatening to put it on my credit. I told them to go F themselves and sue me.
It's ugly, but right now Paypal is out $800, and I am out $1200, and of coarse the piece of dung that bought the parts, that I always reached before, does not answer calls.
That is OK though. I am doing some recon work. We will get our money.
So long story short, your guy could easily dispute the sale. Also, this is extremely important, NEVER, NEVER send to an address besides the Paypal listed address because your only defense in a dispute is a tracking number to that address. If you cannot prove you sent to that address, you are automatically wrong and you lose.
I personally hate Paypal and try not to use it unless I feel I know someone.

That sucks Frank, so where does the ahole live? I hope you can track him down. Sounds like a prime candidate for a broken leg or two. i have only used paypal a few times and dont know much about how it works, I appreciate the post. I am going to tell the guy I dont ship out of the country and hopefully he will go away. I think there are enough guys in the good old USA that would like it anyways. So is the safest thing to get paid with a cashiers check?

My72vette454,
I dont know if I would worry about shipping the guy the stuff if he has the dough no C.O.D. ofcourse....looks like he deals with alot of other autoparts people from his feedback...I'd prolly ask one of them and see if they really did have a successfull sale...what part of India is he in? I dont remember too many american cars there when I went last feb. and Vince they dont use beads fer trading there lol....oh and make sure he sends u money in U.S. currency if u do decide to sell it to him because the Indian rupi (currency) isnt worth much....
a cashiers check isnt bad but those are being fordged now too. dont accept anything on a friday from anyone with a cashiers check, even if your selling the car in person to someone. if someone brings ouy a cashiers check ,even on a different day, go to the bank and have them cash it right there and give you cash. a USPS money order is how i deal usually, i havent heard of those being fordged or ripped off, but it wouldn't suprise me if they are.

I second the usps money order. You can cash it at the post office before you ship the part you know its good. Also feedback is good but ebay identitys can be stolen. I have shipped to some overseas guys only with good feedback and usps money order.

Prodigey is right Paypal is crooked and sides with the rip off artist..and more of these guys have learned these tricks with there credite card dispute BS...a honest wire transfer is the safest from over seas I think ...go talk to your bank and see how they want the money safely transfered to you..they will know what the best method is this week....
PS cashier checks are no good anymore..a Postal money order is the safest and you have cash as soon as its in your hand..no need for it to clear in your account.

Don't bother. It is a pain enough to ship the stuff let alone out of the country. I stay away from stuff going out of country (maybe Canada wouldn't be so bad.
I would just hope somebody else buys it first.
Just my $.02
Brad
PS it isn't worth stressin on. I do agree with Frank about paypal can get really tricky.

Wow, Frank-that's some crazy sheeot! I deal with Paypal almost daily-and haven't (knock on wood) been taken yet. I never leave a balance in my online Paypal account. As soon as I recieve funds, I transfer it immediately into my business checking account. Once there, money cannot be taken out without my notice first-and I can tell my bank whether I want funds withdrawn or not beforehand-it's my choice....that's how the security is set up for my account, anyway. That's the best advice I can give about Paypal-never leave a balance in it online. -Jabin

Jabin, the problem is if the money is not in the Paypal account, they just put you negative and either try to take it from your bank account, or in my case try to charge my Visa card on file. If they cannot get it from one of those 2 sources, they send it to collection, and may be able to get it on your credit report as a collection which means sooner or later, they will get paid with interest, if you ever finance anything again.
I did something similar to your dumping it in the bank. Not on purpose, but at the time they deducted the funds, I had spent about $800 of those Paypal dollars with a Visa debit card for the Paypal account. They then put me negative the other $1200 and asked in e mail to be paid in so many days (21 I think but I would have to look it up) or they would charge the card on file. After realizing they were standing on the wrong side of the fence, I figured the best way to get them on my side of the fence was to make them an equal victim, so I reported that credit card on file as missing, lost, stolen, and had my credit card company issue a new card with a new number.
It was hilarious when they tried to charge that card after the so many days and it came back invalid. It was kind of funny, you cannot get live people on the phone with Paypal, but change that fugin card and watch the phone ring, LOL!
Long story short the stupid SOBs are still hounding me instead of the guy with all the stolen parts!

The short answer "NO"
Save yourself the trouble. I'm living in Europe now and I can say it's not worth the pain if anything turns sour. Packages that I have sent back and forth to Europe have sometimes gone missing with certified mail, so I can just imagine it with India.

Important note....the Paypal situation that Frank details only happens with Paypal credit card purchases, it is because the buyers cc company will reverse the funds and Paypal knows it. This does not happen with Paypal accounts using a bank to verify them.
There is currently a bill being pushed throught to eliminate this, it basically reads that to get funds reversed the buyer and seller must have met face to face 1st and made a reasonable attempt at resolution.

This is true, I was screwed by some out of the country jack@##!!! He took me for $2500. I took it to my bank, the teller told me it was clear and would be in my account in 24 hours. One week later, it comes up phony, the bank listed on the check advised this. So I had it out with my bank, because I listened to them and did not worry about it after they told me it was good. So the total was $5000 and the bank finally agreed that they had fault in the situation and took care of 1/2, which left me with a $2500.
After this I got smart and started looking at all the issues with fraud and overseas buyers, just incredible. I did not know at the time, but I am much wiser now, unfortunately it took me losing a considerable amount of cash to learn!

I assume there must be us post offices are other outlets in most foriegn countries. I know that the us post office from my experiences is the least expensive way to ship overseas. So they must have some sort of infrastructure set up. But i dont know the exact details.
