hey guys Im in the search for tires and I am a bit stumped. Im not sure if I can run a 315 on a 10" wide rim and it be safe. I also dont want a ton of tire bulge but I do want the contact patch. Next size down is a 285 with 275 being the most common for 17's. Im looking at Nitto's the most but Im more or less open to suggestions on the widest tire that I can get on the rim without any issues plus your thoughts on mounting a wide tire on a skinny rim, if you wanna call a 10" skinny. So if you know any 295's out there or even a 305 that is available Im all ears.

i would stick with a 285 on a 10" wheel, you can get what the call tread walk if you have a to wider tyre, thats why drift cars use such small width tyres on wide rims

315 is too wide for a 10.

dude Im not gonna cut up brand new custom rims. I wanted 11's but I would have had to get a thick lip like a BBS LM instead of the small thin lip. The thick lip makes the wheel look 2 inches smaller than it is and that is why I didnt go with it. Plus side I guess to running a 275 is that BMW guys use that tire all the time so I can find just about any compund tire I want. I think Im gonna run Nitto NT01's or Falken Azenis RT-615's. I guess as an upside to having a narrower rear tire will match up better with what Im gonna have to run up front (most likely a 235) so I wont run into tire induced understeer from running such a big difference in tire front to back.

damn it Im actually considering sending the backs to Stockton Wheel to have them widened to 11". For every 275 there is normally a matching 315 as well and I wanted a 315 and dont wanna have to compromise so I will give em a call and see what they charge to tig in a 1" ring on the back side

just don't blame me for a wider foot print. LOL
Give Weldcraft a call too. They've been giving us pretty good prices lately. For an 11" they will weld on a wider hoop halve to the backside. Have you seen Jody's 64'?

Ive seen his car but not the rims up close. Do you happen to have Weldcrafts #? Oh and what have they been charging for it? Hopefully its not a ton of extra money to do this. Hell If I do a 11.5 I could do a 315 or even a 335. Decisions decisions..

Jimmy Sean said it was $225 each rim and plus shipping for him. Last time I was out it was $165 plus shipping. Might depending on rim type?
Be sure to get the measurments right cause you get what you ask for. http://weldcraftwheels.com/

I have seen pictures of 315 Nitto DR's on a 9.5" rim, and there wasn't too much bulge. But I'm sure you don't want to run a drag radial all the time. I guess the Nitto drag radial runs a little on the narrow side?

They arent drag radials, they are more of an autocross tire very sticky and built for turning. Imm going to have the rims widened cause I want a 315. Thanks mrquick for that lol

Alot of Mustangs have 315's on 10.5 wheels and they look like they fit pretty good, even in person. I attached a picture of a Mustang with them (not my car, just picture off the web).
