Hi all, I'm new but trying to catch up fast. This is my first Muscle car/pro-touring build. I have been in the custom truck scene for many years but have been wanting to do a pro-touring ride for a long time so when this came up on Ebay I went for it.

Here's where I'm at so far. I scored a solid 65 El Camino with a low mile GM 502 crate motor with aluminium heads and a built turbo 350 and a 12 bolt rear running 4.11. The paint is good driver quality bright yellow, I wanted Black but the paint is to good to warrant changing it at this time. So I'm Calling this Project Yellow Jacket. Will probably add some type of black graphic to the hood to break up all the yellow some.

We have gone through the motor checking for issues adjusting the lash etc., added a black air gap mainifold and a few other minor parts to bring it up to where it should be. Also will be changing out the gears for a 3.73 unit this weekend.

Just ordered the full suspention set up from SC&C; ATS spindels upper and lower control arms etc. Also just received the Baer breaks 13' front 12" rear. I have manual brakes now and will be upgrading to power shortly...not sure if I can use a standard booster or will need to go with a hydra boost setup.

The bigger brakes means new wheels are required (I think the wheel choice is gonna drive me insane). I must have read every thread in the wheel section twice and I'm not much closer to a decision.

The Elcky has a rebuilt power steering system but from what I've read here I'm going to probably need to upgrade to a higher ratio unit...again not sure what's the best option here yet.

The interior is a nice custom job, but dated with a bench seat and no seat belts. Seat belts are an issue I have to fix ASAP. Will eventually go with buckets. I want some type of roll bar set up but don't want to run the bars out of the cab; this isn't looking promising.

Any suggestions on some of these issues are welcome. And Yes I know; "PICS". They will be coming soon.

This site is very helpfull and taking way to much of my time. But I'm never happier than when I'm working on a project.

Thanks for the help past and future,
Bob

Sounds like a fun project. Can't wait to see some pics...

Maybe you could do a custom rollpan on the car since you are coming out of the custom truck scene. Just a thought.

Good Luck with your project!

Bob, I'm in the process of building a 65 Elky on a Schwartz chassis with an LS2/T56. The chassis is built and the body will be back on next week. My next step is building a roll cage within the cab. Hopefully my experience will be helpful to you. I will be posting some pics soon.

I like your Elcky Yelcamino. At least now I know what size wheels I'll be running. What style is still in queston.

Got ant more pics?

Mike that roll cage issue is a tough one, let me know what you came up with. My plan right now is to use a 8 point set up and leave the rear bars out. I've seen one done that way and they added a short bar that bolts to the cab with a reinforcing plates on both sides of the cab wall like you see some times on floor sections that are not tied into the frame.

I like the bumpers so no roll pan this time.

Well about 8 months into the project and I am at a stand still so I actually have time for some pics.

The Elcky was yellow when I got it from e-bay so I just painted a simple graphic and called it done. For now anyway.

I have the custom built Turbo 400 with a gear vendors overdrive installed. Fabricating the crossmember and clearancing the floor was the hardest part of this job. I have virtually every suspention part SC&C sells installed (Marcus has been a great help).

Got the new moser 12 bolt with 31 spline axles in it is narrowed 2 inches from stock and has Ford housing ends so no c-clips to worry with.

The enterior needs some work yet but the basics are done. I'm really proud of the center console I built (not to bad for about $85 in materials huh) This is also the reason we are at full stop for the moment; I tried to use the stock wiring to save money but I figured an all new harness from American Auto Wire was cheaper and safer than Rogane treatments.

18x8 and 18x9 Bonspeed Huntington wheels with Braer discs all the way around.

Also installed A hdraboost system and lee power steering unit.

I have sway bars (from SC&C of course), radiator, new guage panel/guages, stainless 3" exhaust plus a bunch of other part just sitting hear ready to install.

What do guys think so far?
