LT1/t56 vs lsX/t56 dimension questions?

I have a 96 LT1/T56 combo in my 71 Cutlass now. I had to do a fair amount of modifying the floorpan to get the tranny to fit (I was also converting from auto to manual). I'm going to swapping my frame out in the next couple of years and I'm thinking of putting a new LSx motor in at that time, but am hoping I can get the tranny to come out at the same spot w/o more floor pan mods. I read that the LSx T56 is different from the LT1's, but not sure how, and I also don't know the length of the combo engine and tranny for the LT1/T56 vs the LSx/T56. Any links or advice on the different dimensions is appreciated. THX!

The external dimension are pretty much the same. The differences are in the input shaft, front plate, and bellhousing.

Can I use my current T-56 setup w/an LSx motor? What needs to be changed to make it work? Anybody have a link that describes the differences in an LSx vs LT-1 t-56? Thx!

I would think you'd be okay without having to do more floor mods by selecting LSx motormount adapters that move the LSx to where you need it. Worst case, if the rear bellhousing face of the LSx engine is exactly where it is with your LT1, the transmission moves back about 1/2" or so.
